i dont hate the minimap, on the contrary its pretty good. it just doesnt give the mech central perspective which is neccisary in an actual engagement. the minimap on the other hand is more for tactical planning and to get quick at a glance info about the battlefield. all you need to do is put the old radar next to the minimap on the hud. you can use the new icons, i really dont need directional data for the enemy, mwll didnt have it, and i never missed it. there is plenty of space. nobody uses 4:3 aspect ratios anymore, and if they do: update your damn screen.

also take note how small the icons are. i mean seriously, use small vector icons and all your problems go away,

as much as i like nuking things from orbit, i dont see that as constructive.

the minimap does give useful information, its just that its not an effective tool in a close in engagement, zoomed or otherwise. we need at a glance information about where the enemy is to us in relation to our mech. overall information about the battlefield is still useful. MWLL was clever enough to give us both.

Why are we fixing something that was never broken?

On the list of things wrong with MWO, the minimap shouldn't even be listed.

It's for new younger players who have never played mechwarrior before; basically PGI thinks this is the way to attract more players to the game or keep them from leaving...i'm not sure which one...Posted Image

The radar change a lot and is broke in so many ways compare to the old one...
1- The icon are so big you lose track of where exactly the enemy and specially your friends are when all close together.
2- You now have no idea where enemy is facing and you only know is there and what weapons carry (nerf it, hard)
3- You need to center the legs by default to know where you are actually facing and torso twist will get you deasy as fk.
(no option for fix position, related to legs or torso as optional to make seismic sensor more usefull)
4- Is not a minimap anymore, is a huge map (no options to zoom in/out)
5- Where are not in the 80" anymore to use a big "P" on screen as icon for our main base.
6- Map now don have smalls "X+Y" attach to each quadrant, making everyone read the map using X and Y composition as cardinals making everyone losing time when we allready have HD monitors with the space to put them individually.

**: Love the idea of nerfing radar a little and make it look more like a stupid old sonar radar with bad precision, but remember this is a futuristic battle and not a submarine from World War 1
^_^ waiting for fix soon since at least one of this point should be adress as an issue impo.

I think putting the new mini-map at the upper left corner might be better than right next to the original one. PGI's intent was to eliminate the need to bring up the tactical map ("B" key), which the new mini-map does do. It just shouldn't have replace the original one, which pilots depend heavily for movement. The upper left is currently used for displaying the lance status, which although useful, is not essential.
