Is the 1070 heavy on your CPU?

CPU heavy game with an out of date engine not the GTX 1070's fault.

I ran Doom 4, GTA5, and Paragon all at 4K max settings 60FPS with SLi GTX 980's. This game I'm lucky not to dip into the 30's at times for no reason.

Ok good, that's what I figured was going on. I mean the 1070 does fine.. Don't get me wrong but definitely not the jump I was expecting. Sometimes your hardware is just to new for the game your playing I guess.

i5 2500k@4.4ghz + GTX1070, FPS still dips in the 40s sometimes when there are intense firefights on maps with lots of vegetation.

Run a CPU monitor I bet you will see it max out.

Yeah its the CPU, trust me, I'm running similar with an i5-3570k@3.40GHz base with auto-OC (to reduce power consumption when not running a game) but I'm only running a GTX970 and not having much different of a time than you. MWO is a very CPU heavy game and your limitation (likewise mine) is the i5 that we are both running.

I doubt it. I used to play MWO with an i5-2500k too.

He needs an ice block in there to get the GHZ ramped up some more. Posted Image

Your i5 shouldn't be limiting you unless your auto-OC isn't going very high. I used to run a 3570K @ 4.4Ghz + GTX 770 and my fps only dipped to low 50's during intense firefights. I have a 6600K @ 4.7Ghz + GTX 1070 now and I occasionally dip to mid 90's (fps is usually 130-160fps on a 144hz monitor)

I run an AMD FX8350 @ 4.2 with a 660TI OC and it runs pretty smooth for the most part for me and only seems to lag or dip occasionally. I think this game is more CPU dependent than GPU.

i5-3570k and AMD 7870 here and I sit at 80-90fps on high settings on the QP maps, although I have seen sizeable dips at random times but most can be traced to a background programme suck up processor time for an instant.

Oh, make sure you run prefer max performance in the Nvidia Control Panel for the GTX 1070 MWO profile, or your GTX 1070 will downclock itself to 900-1100mhz in MWO because it thinks it's not "demanding enough" to warrant full clocks.

It's not demanding enough... It was made for laptops in mind. To this day that fact still pisses me off. CryEngine an engine known to be demanding reduced to dx 9 laptop standards.

I doubt they can ever push my PC on this game sadly.

I'm starting to... no I have lost faith that we will not recive a much needed engine update.

After installing my new video card (EVGA GeForce 970 ftw), a few days ago. How I realized MWO is terrible in graphic settings. If you go to 2012 forum readings what people were using for computers than today, that they did struggle, and getting good performance. I was using a 3 core AMD processor a 8gb ddr3 rams (2x4) and 1GB sapphire 6770 video card. Settings were on Med. And gameplay was smooth (the odd texture flicker on a winter map) 60-80fps. Now would think with a 4gb (3.5GB) video card, FM2+ board,4 core cpu and 16 gb 2133 ddr3's, we would get kick *** graphics, or better results on medium settings (more fps). I get no difference, but worse. I am not playing Battlefield 1 (that new shooter), or other needed intensive graphics needed game. This is MWO (Cryengine3). GPUs are suppose to be their own computer, and remove problems away from the CPU.

I upgraded from GTX570 to 1070 and the only time I can see an improvement is when I shoot the dirt. With the 570 my framerate dropped into single digits with that weird particle system but otherwise I had constant framerates between 45 and 60. Now it is always 60 of course.

It is not the GPU that limits this game.

When we all think technology is getting better. It is actually getting worse. We still have not solved the 1024k barrier on memory. Between 640k-1024k are addresses for hardware, then after that Is that extra memory. Now windows is hiding the problems with virtual memory and other. When we install a video card, the bois doesn't recognize your card "Hey, you have a so and so card." Because the slot is addressed already in the bois (enable or disable). Software in windows hides, address locations, because windows does it using drivers "software" and you will see the hardware has to be licenced by Microsoft to get it to function at its best. You could type "Ver" in dos command and you will see that we are still using dos 6. But you will not see that we are still at 639k base ram. When installing a video card in the older days, We used switches, and then program batch files, and some other software in the command lines. Now, with this software, and hardware going into windows, thinking PNP would solve all the problems. It I not. Can you imagine if we solved the base, address lines and base memory is 2048k or more? Wow...we would be kicking butt in technology. Faster

Make sure it's installed in the correct PCI slot and it's seated correctly. I went from 50 fps to 110 or so.
