Illustrating why our warhammer arms are a pathetic joke.

It isn't just the arms. Our Warhammer looks terrible in my opinion with wimpy arms and crushed head. I know there are a lot around here that like the Warhammer visuals, but I would much rather it be closer to the above pic.

Our Warhammer's arms could not have barrels that long because we have dynamic geometry which means that it would look horrendous when there's nothing on the arms - they would just become short stubby blocks with those long barrels removed.

Alex knew this and that's the reason our Whammy's arms look that way. I agree that the original look nicer but it just doesn't fit MWO's style of doing things.

As for the "crushed" head, some players asked PGI to make it that way and they complied.

because the "crushed head" matches his concept art which is way better than Shims in this case.

Mind you, I prefer my Macross style one, but it is what it is.

My stance on the MWO reseen Marauder,Warhammer, and Rifleman are well documented... I hate them like they molested my childhood Battletech memories. But I understand, PGI and HBS are a little more fearful than Catalyst, it is a lot more work to change a video game model than a sourcebook drawing.

Not to mention Catalyst is backed by the Topps legal team...

Then every barrel for every AC 5 on every mech should always be that large, or there needs to be an in-game mechanic to justify that enormous barrel.

This is exactly why, in this game, we have balance issues - artists just making up random sizes and shapes based on complete whimsy and in PGI's defense they are at the mercy of the original TROs to an extent.

Plenty of guns in the real world today with the same caliber use different barrel lengths. A long barrel is more accurate, but more unwieldy. Given the Marauder's low stance, center of gravity, and overall shape, it makes sense to have a barrel this size. If you put this on a Jagermech it would be silly for all the same but opposite reasons, hence they have smaller barrels.

Of course recoil and torque based on the weapon's distance to center of mass isn't a factor in MWO, but it actually was in some of the older games, and probably also was taken into consideration by the artists when they drew the first picture in this thread.

It's a stock MAD-3R, it doesn't have the Heat Sinks to do that... both PPC's+walking would be 21 heat, she's only got 16 SHS... so it would be down a MP the next round... But it can do a PPC+Mlas+AC/5+walk for 16 heat.

That would be considerably less effective, you want to use the lasers only within 5 hexes, at any other range you should use the PPCs as long as you can keep the heat below 8 at the end of the round.
The loss of 1MP does not stack up to several extra PPC shots as your target closes in unless you're fighting something that's both slow and short ranged.

the big ac 5 is like welding a pineapple tin to the exhaust of a little datsun.

Eh, I may strongly prefer CGL's Marauder, but IMO, Alex did a better Warhammer. Shim's is too weirdly boxy for me.

So.. a Pillsbury Dough-boy with PPCs?

Blech.
Like I said I know some/a lot of people like it, but I am not one of them. To each their own I suppose. I would prefer the Macross one over them all but that isn't going to happen so for me the new version from Catalyst is preferable to what we have here.

I suppose, but I think they could have done better. Perhaps instead of the barrels going away with no weapons in the arms they could just be capped barrels instead?

I'm aware that some players asked for it I just don't think PGI should have done it. It looks ridiculous to me and it now seems to be the trend ever since. The poor Kodiak suffered the same fate. Just my opinion though.

Nope. People want to run MetaHammers, I think the stumpy arm tax is fitting. There is an easy fix after all... Put ppcs in the arms, like a proper Warhammer

Well yeah, but there are not many of us determined enough to do that. I think I have PPCs in the arms on all but one of mine though.

Yeah, I'm OK with those other folks running gross looking toxic avenger mutant cripple bots. Because I'm vindictive like that.

I find even the one I was running LLs in for abit to experiments (LPLs actually, my bad) still didn't look horrid, even if the square lazor thing is pretty MEH.
