Why do the overwhelming vast majority of MWO players not use microphones to communicate during matches???

Possibly living with people and not wanting to disturb them, possibly listening to their own music, possibly horribly socially anxious, possibly has a sore throat, maybe they just don't want to talk.

There's a lot of reasons.

There's this one guy I know who has all chat options as well as VOIP toggled off in the game because he doesn't want to see or hear people saying stupid things. Same guy regularly ******* about his teams sucking in PUG matches. Like, cool, just go ahead and sever all forms of communication with anyone you're not on teamspeak with you and then blame them for not being coordinated. Seriously, guys, he's so smart. /facepalm

Apparently most don't even want to listen to anyone including the NPC voice - "Base is Under Attack"...

Ya, I know. That's just the starting point.

Have had people in my various guilds over the years whose voices sounded fine on cheap $19.99 headsets though. No they're not going to be able to hear the foot steps in first person shooters with such but they can at least communicate well enough with the group.

I unfortunately have limited faith in pugs. I tend to find subtle direction more effective. If I want them to go somewhere, I target an enemy so they follow the dorito. If I don't want them to be distracted by a squirrel I don't target it. Placing a UAV over the enemy team bumps everyone's performance noticeably.

PUG puppet mastering is very useful. I still find using my Hellbringer's ECM to protect people, then pulling people into pushes works wonders.

For those who have had physical damage to their vocal cords due to health/work issues narc works just as well as voip. Two tons ammo lets you narc the entire enemy team and it's a pain in the *** when you narc the ecms when your mech has narc duration quirk plus enhanced narc module.

Have you heard some of the abusive tirades spewing from the mini dictators that play this game? That's enough for many to turn it off.

I keep it on and use voip, but there are days I question my decision.

Actually the more expensive brand name mics very well may have the same mic as the cheap ones.
They are mass produced and there is very little difference between them.
Also after going through the internet you would have a hard time telling the cheap one from even the very best mic.

Generally play when the rest of the family is sleeping. Actually a very common situation for people with jobs and families, the only time you get to play.

I think I may of played CW with that guy in a PUG a few times. He would only communicate in chat to call people names, saying how stupid they were for giving orders and tell people to shut up. He basically hid and used teammates as decoys the entire time across several matches while calling everyone else idiots for following plans or just using VOIP. Hopefully the player got banned somehow.

What's the point of having a mic if people are gonna tell you to shut up after you told them 6 or 7 times to stop nascaring?

Nobody ever goes left at the start of the match anymore, it's always to the right then left turns all day after the enemy is spotted. Like the shape of "?".

Don't need a good mic--just need to yell at them a little, and sprinkle in some colorful language to grab their attention first.

I wear a headset and talk 9 hours Mon-Fri, actively try and avoid doing that when relaxing.
