Alright, now I want to ask a serious question.

Is there some reason we don't have inertial physics here?

i.e. if a locust runs 166 kph and run into a direwolves leg, shouldn't the drewolf be legged and the locust dead?

I mean if they were to implement that I think we would have one hell of a lot less "lights in our legs" messing up movement.

I think it would be a lot of fun, that and knockdowns.

I blame Paul for getting pissy after being trolled by Goons.

I also blame Russ because he belongs in the circus.

Back a long while ago, we had knockdowns and they were handled... poorly.

When your mech was knocked down, you were thrown to a 3rd person view of your mech standing up while the battle raged around it, with no opportunity to control your mech while getting back on its feet. This became a "tactic" of sorts essentially allowing a group to stun lock a player.

Paul's hind quarters are still sore since a group of Dragons did that to him and stole his lunch money. His campaign of vengeance on the MWO populace is still ongoing today.

Plot twist: Russ actually really loves the circus.

this is my fav relevant vid:

forget knockdown's though.

how about more basic physics? if you move to the side and shoot a ballistic or PPC, it should also have a sideways movement equal to what the engine is doing. right now the projectiles shot by a mech spawn out of mid air and not inherit ANY acceleration or momentum from the mech they are fired from

I see, however that video shows pgi's lack of understanding when implementing something. A dragon (at what 50 tonnes?) would not be able to knock down an atlas. thee is a weight and speed ratio that would have to be implemented along with it.

Two things with that -

One, the Dragon is 60 tons and easily can match or exceed an Atlas' momentum.

Second, PGI was trying to borrow from the lore - Dragons were reputed to have a low center of mass and that aided them in knocking down other mechs. PGI's code exacerbated that a bit, and Dragon bowling was an entertaining, if short-lived, pastime.

166/10.8=15

15*20/10=30

30 ram damage won't leg a Dire wolf, but it would leave a dent.

Using TT rules as this game is based on TT.

That's why you use the sprint rule, that lets you double your walk speed...

216/10.8=20

(20*20)/10=40

40 ram damage still won't leg a Dire Wolf, but will leave that leg in a world of hurt... now strap few tons of MG on that Locust, as the Locust will be subject to critical hits, and the large explosion rules means you could leg that Dire Wolf, with a big enough explosion and cascading engine failure rules.

Yes I have use Locust cruise missiles before in camping games.

Do we really need to add any more reasons to encourage laser boating?

as for the relative physics too, then we would need to implement balancing a mech rules. I.E. a locust weighs 20 tons and out of that so much is engine and structure, but then they throw on a large laser weighing in at 25% of the mass of the entire mech. or lrg pulse (which is 2 tons heavier) that mech would have some serious issues.

Didn't TT have a way to deal with this? for some strange reason I seem to remember lights couldn't mount certain things? I can't find my manual, someone correct me?(prolly messing up my games again)

'Course poptarting was dealt with too. but whatever.

Implementation, balance, fix.
PGI are great for fail.

They did have a calculation, also pseudo DFAs

DFA in the sense you were screwed. Jenner could jump on your face, knock you down, and keep going.
Rarer, but it happened to my Dragon. Not sure if bug or intended of course.

as for the laser boating, it would just prove that 90% of the MWO players actually don't have the skill necessary to play, they just want to play COD style. get a gun, shoot, bang, dead.
