Took my first gander at the leaderboard today. My first impression is another good idea implemented in typical PGI fashion.

First, if you do a sort on match stats such as k/d or dmg per match it doesn't insert a qualifier such as "leaders with so many matches played". So you see people at the top after playing 1 match. Inserting a qualifier would be easy and could be based upon a simple formula such as minimum games played equals some arbitrary number times days since leaderboard created. A nine year old could do it.

Second, there is no depth to it. There are so many different categories that are missing. Best pilot by chassis, best by pilot by weight class, best pilot by house, etc.

And where is cumulative match score?

And this could have been tied to pilot rating but is not.

Overall my impression is once again...why?

(As a note, the number of pilots who play 10 matches a day so far is around 4200 which is in line with the mech sale stats gathered with minimum scores in leaderboard events. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.)

Who cares ...
MM doesn't provide everyone with equal competition, i.e. leaderboard is meaningless.

leader board is meh when you can have one great game and sit at the top of the boards.

I have never been a fan of this sort of thing, but there should have been at least a 50 games played requirement, before you even got on it.

Since group queue is allowed the leaderboard is not gonna be fair anyway. If it was separate between solo-q and group queue then it would have been more fair.

Bump on this due to the leaderboard being functionally useless.

There should be a qualifier of a minimum number of matches before your score is even considered an "average". One good game does not make an average.

Looking at the board shows me a few hooligans had a good round, then down around 9th place we find someone with an actual high Average.

I do not think it would take much to insert a few more lines of code, similar to the probationary rounds, to make the leaderboard start to display your score only after a qualifier period of rounds.

This would require a person to actually generate an average before being able to display an average.

Until an adjustment like this happens, the leaderboard is not giving proper info and the position numbers mean nothing.

Too bad, this is a nice idea... just needs a little more refinement. Keep trying.

Perspective from one pilot with three accounts...

On my main I'm around the 7000-8000 range overall, 1500-2000 range in light mechs (my primary weight class).
On my secondary alt I've played a few times I'm somewhere in the 38,000-39,000 overall and 18,000-19,000 in lights.
On my third account, where the only thing I've played since the Leaderboard came out is a completely mastered & moduled small pulse Firestarter...I'm in the top 200 overall and <100 in Light mechs.

Guess what? Leaderboards mean two things, and Jack left town.

Either the leaderboad is as meaningless as tier and now one cares-so why have it? Or the leaderboard is another way to divide the community needlessly-so why have it?
Personally I liked the fact that MWO avoided leaderboards. Now if I could get PGI to understand win/loss ration has more to do with teamwork than individual pilot skill. Ahh well jousting at windmills.

Make this into a suggestion thread... I support all your additions to the leaderboard.

While you're at it ask to have assists tracked on the stat page.

The leader board is showing me one great piece of information. My performance in game has changed a lot in the past year. I am getting worse at the game. I can only hope to be average. I appear to be some were between mediocre and dead weight.

It's rather frustrating that my ability to play a game I like has degraded so much.

Practice makes better. Have you been slacking off on MWO recently?

We could argue all day about whether or not the leaderboard was a good idea in the first place, but the fact of the matter is we have it...and it's broken.

PGI needs to either fix it, by establishing some form of qualifier (in addition to a way to deal with stagnant players), or they need to remove it entirely.

Personally I hope they can fix it. A good leaderboard system (that works) is a great way to keep players like me interested in the game, because there's at least some form of goal I'm always aiming for.

There should also be a means for a player to opt-out and/or make their leaderboard stats private, because here's another great oversight to the current system:

Example Dialogue:
"______ obviously doesn't know anything about Clan vs. IS balance. He only has ___ avg match score, ___ KDR, ___ WLR, etc..."

For the life of me, I have no idea why there's even a "Search by Player Name" function for this leaderboard. I'm sure it was put there under good intentions, however when players have no ability to hide and/or opt-out of the leaderboard, it will most certainly be used for griefing, if it hasn't already.

I would assume that over time the Leaderboard will eventually balance itself out to some sort of representative status... but, until then, I will pay no heed to it whatsoever.

I would wager that most T1 players haven't even looked at that leaderboard more than once other than to establish whether or not previous stats were included on it or not (nope).

I use it to tell if i'm getting better or worse....

So it's good for that at least

(It's nice being able to track my recent games rather than ones from 2012 when I didn't know where the power button was)
