I have heard that using jump jets affects heat but how does it do it? What affect the amount of heat?

Just wondering because I when I pop tart with my dual ERPPC BJ-3 I have no problem with heat more than what you'd expect from 2 ERPPC.

But when I pop tart with my PHX-1B using a single ERPPC I hit 98% heat pretty much at once even though if I'm just standing still the ERPPC only boost heat with around 20%.

So how does it work?

If you pop tart once it's impossible to get to 90% heat with only 1 erppc. Jj dun generate enough heat to raise heat only hinder heat dissipation. Were you doing it in testing ground? There's a known bug that doesn't reset your heat properly at the start. That could be the cause

Correct. JJ don't cause heat but you don't dissipate heat while you're jumping. I have no idea what's going on with your PHX.

They do cause a very very small amount of heat, but it's so miniscule that you only notice it if you have a LOT of them and you are in a hot map. I play Spiders a lot, so that's how I know this.

On average though, it just slows heat dissipation. Unless you have 6+, you shouldn't see heat going up.

Because of Paul's masterful interpretation of the rules -- of a tabletop game he spent "about 2 hours" playing -- the heat jumpjets produce is 2.5 units per second per jumpjet. So if 3 jumpers and 1 second of thrust you make 7.5 heat (less than a single ppc). Since the bare minimum threshold is 40 (pure stock shs mech with no skill tree) and the maximum practical threshold is in excess of 110....

Don't sweat it.

Note:. Er ppc generated 14 heat.
If 14 = 25%
Then to get 98 when factoring cooling while jumping...
You probably have 14 Dhs or close to it. To completely cool from an ER ppc you need about 6 seconds before you shoot again without quirks. Even with quirks you still need time before you log another and if using two..

Keep in mind that the Phoenix gets a faster firing rate if not mistaken...

@Kon- according to Smurfy, no. Just a velocity buff for PPCs, and RoF for MGs.

I was at first wondering if the OP was using SHS instead of DHS, but no. That wouldn't account for the reported 20-98% differential, and besides the -1B comes with DHS standard.

There is nothing I can think of in the 'working as intended' game that would account for THAT great a difference in the heat, for just a single ERPPC. Even on a mech with just 10 SHS, running, inside the caldera on Caustic Valley, then taking off to a jump, it shouldn't come close to 98% from otherwise normalized heat. Done it all with DHS and not even close, and done it except for the jumping with SHS on a Locust with not even close to that. 15 heat for firing, versus the intrinsic cap, even on a hot map at a run, shouldn't even get you 2/3 of the way there.

Either something is fishy, or we don't have ALL of the information.

@Chryckan, could you maybe find a way to get video of this happening? Even in Testing Grounds or the Mechwarrior Academy? I've played the PXH-1B with DUAL ERPPCs on hot maps, and not seen that kind of result from poptarting, and so I think it'd help us to help you, if we could see the WHOLE story.

There is.
Shoot.
Jump shoot.
Shoot.
Jump shoot. Need a full 6 seconds cool off from a shot. It reloads in 4 seconds.

Just get a little carried away and yep. Hitting that won't be hard.
Or just tack in a couple of lasers.

10 SHS...
Just standing in the Caldera for 10 seconds will shut you down.
Another 10 and you'll explode.

Just FYI. ^_^
I've done it a few times back in the repair and rearm days of closed beta.
