Oh The Butterbee

With the minimum score I am currently sitting at 281. For an MC sink that isn't good and I doubt many people are buying MC just to get this mech.
But maybe that will change when people see the leaderboards. Butterbee is putting up some respectable numbers.

That is true. The Butterbee is mix between them with slightly better agility but misses the weapon quirks. Still as a money maker with the 30% CB Bonus it is quite good imo. I am having fun riding mine so no buyers remorse here.

as noted it has a 30% c-bill boost.
I bought it simply because its a catapult, and I like the camo even if it should focus more on the bee and less on the snake
After reading and replying to this I went back and double checked the hard points and quirks.
Jester, and K2 you can cut out the mix as they are virtually different mechs.
Taking the missile based ones, the BB has the worse weapon quirks of the lot, it is the most flexible of the others regarding hard points though.
The BB is pretty good out the box and with limited changes you can make it even better, artemis, dhs engine size etc, in splat mode its not ammo dependant like the A1 and you can use a std engine without damaging its performance making it tougher. A1 in splat mode needs that XL and artemis or its not carrying enough ammo for 6x6srms. also bb has lasers if the ears go.
It carries as 4 energy hard points like the C1 but has two extra missile hardpoints so you can run lrm10x4 with an XL have enough ammo and don't gimp your energy options if you take a tag.
Taking Tag for the C4 gimps its energy options by 50% it to can take lrm 40 either of 2 or 4 launcher varity.
C4 is probably the worse of the Cats even with better missile quirks.
So the BB in my opinion does bring something to the game the other missile carriers can't do, but whether people feel its worth the $ is a personal thing, its certainly no worse, and its certainly not pay to win, I bought, because I love cats and enjoying mastering it

near max armor (-3 per leg)
Endo steel
13 DHS
280XL
2 jump jets
3 x large laser
4 x LRM5
6.5 tons LRM ammo
The significantly tighter grouping of the LRM5s means that you are landing more ammo on the target than a similar number of larger launchers. It may take more volleys to meet the same damage as multiple LRm10s but you will put more missiles on the target than the LRM10s will. So overall more damage per ton of ammo is put onto the target. Also the LRM5s are only 8 tons.
Generally fire in chainfire mode but if there is significant AMS present go for grouped fire and launch the 20 wad at once.Ghost heat is minimal if even noticable at all.
There isn't as much of a dire need to have anti ECM hardware on this build because well you do have 15 tons of laser as well. So you don't need to pay the LRM tax with BAP and TAG installed.
If you do try this build it is important to say this is not a sit in the back and lob ammo at terrain sort of LRM boat. It's a hang with the pack and run and gun build. Always remember you are also packing some decent laser vomit with the triple lrg lasers.
I have the lasers grouped with 2 on one trigger and 1 (CT) on a second trigger (Mouse button 1 and 2)
LRMs are grouped as all 4 on chainfire (heat friendly and keeps the target rattled under a constant stream of LRM hits) and a second grouping as all 4 groupfired (for defeating AMS)

Im leveling a C4 right now running xl295 3xJJ 4xSRM6, 1xLPL in the center. It puts in good work for me and the LPL gives it a little poking ability early on. It isnt a splatcat but it hits hard when i deliver an alpha, jumps well, and LPL lets me keep up some steady DPM while im cooling down.

Now you can't say, run some srms and lpls on the C4 like you can on BB but still.
I guess to most people the 30% cbill bonus just isn't enough of a draw to drop MC on what amounts to a slightly different C4.

Of course, underquirking also means it generally gets fewer C-bills to begin with. It's the same problem other recent designs have- they don't perform well at anything specific, which means they're beaten by those that do.
PGI really, -really- should have adjusted hardpoint counts at the least, rather than slapping a near-meaningless quirk set on the Butterbee and leaving it at that. Compare it to the Jester. 8E, 10% multiple quirks for it's energy weapons vs. 4E/4M and nothing but velocity. Heck, 10% missile heat/10% energy heat/10% velocity would have matched up decently, but all it does get is the velocity boost- which is a marginal boost to a splatbuild (and honestly does more for LRMs than SRMs).
And the other Cats really, really could have used +2 hardpoints, even if it meant trimming their quirks down to more like the Jester. An 8M -A1, 2E/6M -C4, 4E/4M -C1, 6E/2B -K2 lineup would have brought them much more in line with other, newer 65-tonners.

The K2 actually had 6 E 2B back in closed beta, but it got nerfed.
The thing with the cats is that they're just so old, and really where very very good for most of MWO's lifetime, despite multiple nerfs until they finally caught the dynamic weapon cancer, whereupon they almost completely died out until the rescale.

That it did, which was even more amusing at the time because what most people were scared of were Gaussapults.
And then the Jagermech came along and that went out the window, and it even has a 6B/2E mirror image of the K2. Mmm, Dapperjager.
The -A1 might need some remodeling on the arms, but the -C4 can use the current 6M -A1 arms, the -C1 the -C4/Butterbee arms, and the -K2 shouldn't need much work to squeeze in another arm-mount E hardpoint on the LA/RA. As noted, it used to anyway.

This is just further proof that both PGI and the much of player base are extremely shortsighted and have no freaking clue what they are doing/asking for.
