Once I'm through with leveling my Marauders and Crabs I'm going to bring 'em to the battlefield.

One of my favorite mechs, I play all regularly. No problems up here...

I kept the 5W and the Tempest after getting through the basics, both of which I can take to Elite due to previous Heavy Mech progress. On the whole, the quirks don't really make a ton of sense, and they definitely do not compare favorably with the Warhammer in comparison, a fellow 70-ton Mech. Low cockpit [as per lore], missile bay doors giving away your position or delaying your attacks when closed. It all adds up to the point where you'd be better off with a Warhammer imo.

The quirks mean that other mechs do LRMs better, and the shape means that other mechs do every other type of fighting better too.

The only reason to use it is nostalgia.

If PGI sorted out LRM rack size balance and then gave the Archer some good LRM20 quirks, you'd start to see more of them around.

Took a break from MWO just about when the Archer was released (work mostly not out of boredom) so I had really only a few games a week.
But not I've had more time and been playing several games the past few days and I've seen 0 Archers...
I remember the forums was in a state of panic of what will happen to the game with so many missiles hardpoints...
Are they really that bad?

Dude... they were DoA from well, Arrival. Got a slight reprieve from abject garbage a week or two later, but were still BAD, and now, they are Bigger BADs.

Until PGI fixes LRMs, in particular LARGE LRM launchers, or at least quirks the ARC for them, it will stall DoA.

A number of people don't like them mostly because of hit boxes reasons or performance reason, which is usually what's being verbally slung at it.
Now, I my self have just gotten around to leveling my Archers and working through them rather quickly and enjoying them. The 5W is by far my best performer as well as the most fun. 5X LRM5 with 4x SRM4s and a STD300 engine if I remember that correctl, could be 295.
Any way, I love a number of times the enemie thinks I am pure LRM5 Archer and thus try to bum rush me only to get a face full of SRMs and they then frantically try to get away from me. Always good for a laugh.
The 5R I think I have with 4x MLs, TAG, 3x ALRM10s, and STD300. This is a fun LRM mech.

They're not yet out for CBills until next week (July 5th), I'd imagine you'll see some more then

It's not very good. People probably mastered them and shelved them. And they got bigger in the rescale.

Yep, took mine out for Double XP weekend after I got done with my Kodiaks. Leveled the 5W, Tempest was already done, and about 2/3 done with the Master level on the other two. Was painful almost every game I took them. Back to stripped and collecting dusk until next double XP weekend. See what happens in Quirkening 4.1, or 5.0.

Still facepalming the fact they increased their size with no changes in quirks.

To be fair, I enjoy them. Bad mech that clicks with me. <shrug> My Tempest does great in PUGs where ECM matters. The only one I didn't enjoy was the 5S. Just not good at any one thing.

tempest and 5W can be made to work, but emphasis is on WORK, lol. Like it's hard work to do consistently decent in them, let alone well. Even with ECM, the Tempest is just such a large target..... I found I had to work non LoS locks a lot more than I prefer with LRMs to be effective. Even pre rescale I think the CPLT-C1 was simply better. IMO

Yeah. If they needed to get bigger, fine. But like you said... they needed better structure buffs than they got at their OLD size, let alone decent Large LRM rack love.... now?

Ay carumba.

My laser vomit doesn't need locks. Just PUG armor. Shoot the Kodiak, I'll just crank out an average of 650 damage while not being noticed.

I know, I know...

5W isn't a bad mech IMO, 5xLRM5 (in the torso) and 4xSRM4 (in the arms) definitely works with a 300 engine. At least in pugland. You can do XL300 and artemis, or STD300 without. Chainfire LRM5 to harass and then when you get bored or rushed by faster moving enemies you have the SRMs.

Having 4xSRM4+A in the arms is also tight enough to take down UAVs, and it's possibly one of the more satisfying things to do in MWO if you ask me.

Overall I have OK-ish stats with all my Archers, except the win statistics are down from where I think they should be. Partly because they force me into a playstyle I'm not well suited for.

Come to the Dark Side. Put AC10s on your Black Widow.

Your enemy: "Hello Natasha! Hehehe. Is your mech cold or are you happy to see....."

BLAM! BLAM!

Natasha: "Thanks for the CBills....meat." <-- I'd pay lots of MC for that war horn.

Lrms are the the by far worst weapon system in the game, so no Archers anymore.
