Really? They might need some quirk love but isnt it more that you are a terrible pilot in them? I cant say for the Victor, only piloted the trial Vindicator, which seems decent. But the Panther is really good when you slap in an xl engine and adjust thereafter.
If a veteran drives a tank that he have no experience with its again his inexperience which sets the learning curve.

Two things. First. I was joking. That was a joke. You took it seriously. Second. Please don't be that guy. The one who says "But the Dragon is a great mech, you just need to get good, scrub."

Panther is not that bad, you are right that the Vindi is meh, the Archer got screwed on missile quirks even though it's a missile mech. The Victor needs to have it's missile tubes fixed so it can actually use SRMs to brawl, particularly 9S instead of the stupid 2,4,6, set up.

Panther isn't terrible, it just isn't a good light mech, IMO.

Nope. Neither one had a torso-mounted cockpit. While the positioning was odd on the artwork, they still had a head and the cockpit was inside it, meaning a shot that destroyed the head would obliterate the pilot.

<- played since just before it changed from Battledroids.

not the craziest claim I'v heard, but an oddly enduring one...especially since there weren't even optional torso cockpit rules until a post clan invasion solaris campaign.

Other one was that the Atlas was supposed to carry a squad of infantry in the head..... wtf?

Archer's the only mech I regret buying. I should've held out for the Crusader, per my original feeling.

I still run my Archer. Though, that's only in between when I am mastering other 'mechs and dont quite have enough money to buy/outfit my next one. I run a 5W with 5 LRM5s in the torsos and 4 SRM4s in the arms. It's pretty deadly.

I will buy them all in July to round out my complete Inner Sphere collection.

I now go in with moderated expectations.

I brawl, so it will be ML and SRMs and STD. Will I die?

Yep.

But I will take many, many, many with me as my core blows....

I like the Archer. It's a trash mech I do well in. The rescale def hurt, it was already pretty squishy, harder to run these days.

Worst money I've spend on MWO was the Archer Posted Image

Tried them a bit and their just horrible... Not enough room to fit stuff in if you're using an XL.
Too less tonnage if a STD engine is used.
Not worth it at al

A square of infantry in an Atlas' head? Wouldn't a squad of technicians, engineers or fellow mechwarriors be a wiser decision? Having multiple people simultaneously control the mech, but divided into specific areas like the arms, torso, damage control, etc? Or were they just sitting around waiting until the Atlas pilot got cocky, took heavy machine gun fire from a Locust behind him and then they'd all jump out and onto said Locust to try and disable it? I'm inclined to believe the hilarity of the latter, myself.

I don't make the rumors, just report them.

The idea, I think is when the Atlas kicks down the gates, you still need infantry to secure an objective... tanks, planes and mechs realyl can't clear buildings, etc.

I still play my ARC-5W now and then in quick play, the other 2 standard pack variants I didn't really like too much. Didn't buy the Tempest, but I have seen people do well with it also.

The XL unfriendly side torsos hold the Archer back. I do ok in the 5W with a 325XL, 5 LRM5 and 4 SRM4, seismic + adv target decay, and LRM5 + SRM4 cooldown mods, but it is squishy as people have said though. 1.57 K/D ratio in QP matches, which is pretty solid for me. I do worse in some mechs that are considered a lot better than the 5W.

Black powder made the bow and arrow obsolete, thats why you dont see any archers.

Same build I have but I run a STD 300 Engine, much more survivable.

XL unfriendly.

Catapult does the same thing but in a smaller, more mobile package.

It's only advantage is the fact that it gets 1 variant with ECM. But the second you open those doors to shoot, everyone knows where you are and youll pop.

The general shape of the archer makes it hard to carry the massive firepower that other mechs can in the Heavy Class. More or less it has too strong of draw backs at the moment for people to really be all over it, so, with Catapults getting smaller IS players have gone back to them for their missile boat antics in the heavy class. You will likely see more Archers when they come out for Cbills, but, they are decidedly a meh mech. I do take my Tempest into FW with a standard engine and ECM with 2xLL, 2xML, 2xSRM4 which makes it work but it is still very meh, regardless of how much fun I have in it, unfortunately.
