What will keep this game going is not just the whales, but the players who have money and are making frugal purchases. I consider myself to be the latter. Got a number of hero mechs, Founder Hunchy, Phoenix pack, TBR and DW a la carte, Ebon Jaguar Invasion, Maruder base, Warhammer Collector + hero, Archer base + hero, Kodiak base, and Steam Medium. To me, they were all good deals (Kodiak base package was a no brainer). I refunded the Phoenix Hawk because of the Archer (I knew it was going to get screwed on Quirks), and refunded the Night Gyr because of failure to address simple issues. They need to consider making changes, or fix things, that appeal to the broader base of players, not just what they think will make the whales happy.

$1000 is pilot whale status. Some of us are many multiples of that.

We all have accounts. PGI has all our spending info, and they no doubt throw it in spreadsheets and do trending on it. Just keep giving them feedback on what we want. Yes, we get lots of new mechs, but that's because it's easy for 1-2 people to crank out a new model and implement it. they're also working on other stuff, and that's slower. I'll play with my friends while I wait for it.

Y'all are familiar with the old adage 'Out with the old, in with the new'

@OP
I am a whale several times over and, yes last month was the last money I am going to spend. New mech packs, premium time and all that stuff just don't make up for the apparent apathy from PGI in regards to, what is supposed to be, the end-game of MWO. Their desire to turn the game into an e-sport is disheartening. The inability to deal with the many different balance issues is frustrating.
Things would need to 180 for me to open my wallet again -- as it stands the game is F2P only for me now.
I would like to spend more and support a Canadian company -- money isn't the issue. Heck I would up for a monthly subscription fee if I thought the money was going to go to making FW a robust environment.

I spend money if I have spare cash and if the mechs etc seems interesting enough. Or I need MC for some sales.

Some truth in that. Games Workshop has an internal saying that "a new player is worth $500, an old player is worth a pain in the a--." I'm not sure it's entirely the case here though as the target population is mostly BT/MW fans and that's a finite and largely tapped pool.

I'll likely get the Linebacker because I play this game usually 30 ish hours a month, so I don't mind dropping $20 a month on the game.

I hit the wall where I had enough of everyone playing the team portion of the game like it's quick play , then having the bare faced gall to defend that. Also a certain part if our "community" seems to think minorities ( no matter how marginal) are less important than they are.
Why should I pay for their game? I used to play daily, now maybe once or twice a fortnight..... because of the players- not PGI.

Daishi pack $120
Resistance 1 $80
Urbie basic $20
Clan wave 3 full $120
Marauder $20
Warhammer $20
Kodiak + Spirit Bear $35
Phoenix Hawk $20
Cyclops $20
Various MC $117
Tournament supporter $10
Total $582
That sounds like a lot, then I look at this:
Total Play time in match: 25 Days, 10 Hours, 52 Minutes (610.85 Hours, mechlab time excluded)
$0.953/hour
That's still on par with just about every other game I have played for $/hour of entertainment, with a handful of exceptions (Starcraft, Diablo 2 & 3, several Final Fantasy's). For the moment I'm closed up until something of significant game impact hits. Power draw/ghost heat 2.0 isn't enough.

I like this game, but it's juuuuuuust starting to feel stale. Not enough people are dropping, not enough game modes, not enough variety in those game modes, not enough maps.
Ironically, the number of mechs feels about right: there's a really wide diversity in mechs that people drop in and builds they use. It's too bad there's not more to the game; it just feels like there's no depth to it.
