If it's designed for a new player, it needs to be straightforward, nimble enough to keep up with the heavy pack, and well protected both against enemy fire and newbie stupidity.

A literal 2-button build. Twin LPLs give it a decently solid punch and reach, while four LRM-5 racks with Artemis are the most rapid-fire, damaged focused option of their kind and run cool enough that a beginner can spam either one without quickly baking the 'Mech. This is doubly important because new players are running these without basics- meaning heat loads are exceptional and often poorly handled as well.

325XL engine, because 70kph will keep the 'Mech in the pack with other heavies. Near maximum armor, focused frontal. Plenty of ammo tucked into the missile side to allow for poor gunners to miss a few times without running dry, and an Active Probe so they'll see most targets at range and not end up with a blanked lock-on system up close.

I went with 2 x C-ERLL, 1 C-MPL, 2 x C-SSRM-4, and a C-LRM-10. An Active Probe, TC 2, and AMS are included as well.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0af20e7e1316e96

This build gives you the ability to be effective at all ranges, counter ECM, and even destroy some enemy missiles.

Weapon Groups
1 - C-Med Pulse Laser - Left Arm - Chain Fire
2 - 2 x C-ER Large Laser - Right Arm - Group Fire
3 - 2 x C-SSRM-4 - Left Torso - Group Fire
4 - C-LRM-10 - Left Arm - Chain FIre

I've often found that the Orion's Torso's get taken out pretty quickly at short range, so being able to start wearing another 'Mech down at range is helpful. The Active Probe and Streaks help to deter ECM Lights. The Targeting Computer gives the lasers extra crit chances and range as well. And, both the AP and TC help to reduce the Streak lock on time. And if more 'Mechs had AMS, we wouldn't have so many LRM boats.

ON1-IIC-C "Swiss army Orion"

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...4d8acc10136b890

300XL, endo, 15 DHS, 2x mlas, 2x uac-10, 1x LRM5, 1x LRM10, 1x LRM15, ams, CAP.
Weapon groups:
(1) mlas
(2) uac
(3) lrms

People may disparage generalist builds, but whatever you run on an Orion dual UAC10 is no joke. While the noob is gathering courage to attack the lurms provide kill/damage assists and the CAP provides spotting assists. The ammo levels were calculated to encourage caution while discouraging prolonged camping. The only change you might make is substituting a TC1 for the CAP.

ON1-IIC-C / "Hard Slap"

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...4181ab603f1690c

4x srm6a
1x lbxac20
1x erml

xl320

A lighter version of the Spirit Bear, but with more consistent speed, wonkier hitboxes. Tag assists with the ERML and devastate whatever comes your way with the 68 damage splat. Amazingly fun to stare down other 'Mechs with; I remember taking down plenty of brawler/dakka assaults in single combat with this. Absolute nightmare in faction play for an opening drop on less open maps. Always walk away from quick play on this baby with around 700 damage.

My version of the Orion II-C keeps the origional Kerensky Orion build, with a few additions.

Orion IIC-B

I kept the Gauss, and 2xML', but up-gunned it a bit with the Clan tech to:

Clan Gauss
2x ERML
2x ERLL
2x C-SRM6+Artemis

And threw on a Targeting Computer to eek out all i could of the Extra Range of the Clan Energy.

Hope I did this right, the biggest change that I would like to see with this is actually not showen because we're using only pre-excisting builds.

I would actually like to see the U-AC10 moved to the Right arm, and the E.R. Medium lazers to the right chest. its not really a good "meta" build but I thought it would be a fun build, plus, players could always put something else into the right arm like a guass rifle or a U-AC20 or something else.

anyone else think this would be a fun build?

My go to brawler build

[smurfy]http://mwo.smurfy-ne...727ad3a3f23cdef[/smurfy]

Pros:Simple, good brawler with enough ammo to keep it in the fight, fast enough to keep up with most heavies, output alot of damage.
Cons: it can get hot with 2-3 volleys, mostly short ranged with no long range
