I tend to agree with you a lot Pat but on this one I'm dubious.

Two mods got motivated by the exceptional outcry over Long Tom. They tried their existing channels to try and get that concern heard and that got stopped. So they started looking at other ways to help get the concerns there were, ostensibly, in place to help identify and get heard heard and got canned for it.

One could argue that they overstepped their bounds as moderators by trying to help the players convey to the developers issues that were legitimately game-breaking and a threat to the functionality of the games community in the long term....

for which they got booted.

While there was some initial argument on the topic (the thread that got jettisoned you referenced) The mod involved took a second look at the topic and came to agree with it and then started a thread asking players what they would want to replace LT with. He also offered to speak to Tina about coming changes and what options there were.

Annnnddd.....

PUNT.

While I appreciate the concern that mods would get invested in a side on an argument one could argue they should - they should be on the side of helping the community communicate. That's the underlying purpose of the job, right? Clean up static, inappropriate behavior and keep communication lines clear and functional.

Currently we have no effective way to convey problems to PGI. At all. When we attempt to do so we get shut down and ignored. Look at the proposed changes to LT - there is no way, no way that came from any understanding what so ever of the concerns about LT. So we have no means at all to communicate with PGI. They've made it clear they absolutely don't want to hear us.

What options does that leave?

I guess I just not sure that the reason they got the boot so to speak is because of their attempt to get PGI to listen. I am guessing that it has more to do with how they handled themselves when it came to communicating to the community, which you know was kind of bad. I mean you know what they did to our post where we were "sour". If they treated us that way, it's very possible that they responded to people at PGI in the same way. I don't know, I just don't see them trying to create some outreach as the issue at hand here....maybe it was but I think they way they spoke in the forums has more to do with it. Just my opinion though, nothing really more than a hunch to back it up.

So... Derek got canned because he dared try to foster dev/player communication? If that is truly so, then my wallet just closed, locked, and sealed to PGI forever even if they release every 'mech and feature I've ever asked for.

It was apparently only a VolMod who canned the other two VolMods, and one is waiting on an appeal from Tina/official PGI come Monday

Derek is gone though, forced-voluntary vacation

I would take a vacation away from this game too, voluntarily.

Vacation from ForumWarrioring is a thing (not all things are worth talking about at times).

I'm not surprised.

Derek has been slipping in a number of ways not very suitable for a mod, and andi was never neutral enough to begin with and should not have been made a mod in the first place.

Pgi currently being a meltdown of incompetence, including communication, is another issue. But two wrongs don't make a right, they were both making themselves impossible as mods and that's that.

This is quite complex IMHO. As a mod procurator Derek acted wrong. He overstepped his duties, that much is true. PGI could not, as someone already noted, sit and watch his name being damaged (even more at least). But who prompted this behavior by PDerek? It was PGI, no other. I don't envy being in a position in which you are basically forced to betray one set of principles over the other. In this case it was the community or the employer. But at the same time, this employer is the one who put PDerek in that conundrum with its disgusting policies regarding PR. If Tina did her job, if Russ or Paul bothered to consider us forum users, no need would have arisen for a sort of social defender. I believe in the end PDerek tried to use his privileged position to reconcile both parts, the company and the customers, with his ultimately wrong move, but it was a move forced from the start by PGI. Would I have done the same? I dunno, but I'm sure where the guilt lies.

That is something that bothers me, despite the general outrage I don't think enough people is voting with his wallet yet, much less leaving (although that is a bit extreme for me atm)
Even some of the people posting in this same thread attacked me for simply stating my ending of financial support of the game, but then those same guys admit there is no point in forum complaints because PGI simply don't care. So FFS, do the only thing you can do to make the devs turn their heads, STOP the cash flow.

Well, that's just depressing.

I stopped paying for stuff ages ago, but I don't even know if I want to play anymore with how our people are being treated. I mean just on principle.

I waited a decade for this game, I can wait another for the next. Not settling for this crap.

It's a shame that Russ never stopped to consider whether it might be the devs who are toxic rather than the disappointed but supportive community who fund them.

Locust giveaway event
I still have my message where I donated some to his event

Another example of PGI not really knowing or caring what's going on in the forum's
Could've hopped into that giveaway n just double the number of Locusts donated for some easy cred and PR

Shame
I liked Derek
At least he seemed liked he cared, one way or another

Just wanted one last post before this all heads into oblivion.

Nothing said here matters and once you figure that out you will start to understand the only response that means anything to PGI.

Bottom line. Stop buying the Unicorn poo and shame those players you know who always have to have the flavor of the month poo no matter how bad the game gets.

If you really want to hurt them, folks who are completely fed up need to stop playing the game completely, not even drop in every 6 months. Simply "keeping the wallet closed", although does have an effect, if you really want to hurt an F2P you have to lower their ADU (Active Daily User) metric. In F2P, even if you play for free you are still content for the game.

Honestly, you didn't miss much...just PGI being PGI. Ignoring community, irritating folks, etc. The usual.

So, in other words, PGI isn't acting very Canadian -- eh?
