Hah, No kidding..

For me, for clans, the Executioner is a ton of fun, It basically almost as fast as a timber with more agility while masc is in effect. You use MASC, to boost acc/decell, and speed around corners, break from cover to cover.. ect. It is a lot of fun. You can run short range Boats, and long ranged builds with a few weapons. I personally love the ac20+ a bunch of SL's or my long range build, a ERPPC with dual ERLLS, and then some SRM's for closer range blasting. A classic Tanky heavy, that moves well.

Stalkers, are not to bad IS side, they are not speedy, but not slow either, they are in a good spot. Energy and missiles, outside of the super fun hero, the misery which can load up a Gauss or ac20.. IN the middle doesn't play like a heavy, but a nicely moving assault.

Victor.. Many people don't like this mech since the nerf (jump jets got hit a while back and it was a very popular pop tart) but i really don't think people give it a chance to try other play styles with it. It kinda runs builds like the EXE in some ways. A few longer ranged weapons, or a bunch of close ones. IT needs an XL to really shine IMO, and it has JJ's to help spread damage and get around. Gone are it's glory days of the poptart special, But if you play it like a mobile heavy with really tough armor, it is a darn nice mech. To me that is the way the EXE plays too. It hits like a heavy, and moves like one, but it is very tanky. ( Needs a big XL 300-350) Tanky heavy, Not assault.. play like that and you will do well.

For Fast heavies in the 100 KPH range, Dragons Ballistic builds+energy, Quickdraws missile builds+energy, and the catapult Jester Energy boat, are all great choices.. These mechs on the other hand carry loadouts like the 55 tonners, but move faster with mor armor for the most part, outside of a select few options. They all need Big XL's,, 300+ in the jesters case, up to 340, so pricey engines. Again, A tanky medium, verse a true heavy.

Depends on your definition of fast. You don't see a lot after the rescale but the Black Knight is still pretty good and can go a good clip. I think mine goes 83 kph post speed tweak. An XL is pretty much mandatory since you'll need all the weight you can get for heat sinks so you may as well go big with it. I have the biggest XL a Black Knight can fit in mine and it's pretty great.

XLs are ok on the BLK-KNT, but you can still run 3LPL 3ML (18 DHS) with a STD300 and go 69.7, which is really good firepower for a 75 tonner. Or 2LPL 5ML (19 DHS) and a 310/315, going 74 kph with a 47 pt alpha strike.

Or 5 LL, STD300, with 18 heatsinks. Very respectable, but I think better on the GHR-5P.

"slow" with a STD engine, but still creates jealous assault pilots. (Except EXE, KDK-SB, WHK perhaps, GAR, VTR, AWS-9M)

I go with an Ilya Muromets with 340XL, two high mounted ER LL (with CD/Range mods) and 2 AC/5s. After I'm done sharing my portion of armor in the front I can usually get away to the back and reposition for sniping/support fire duties. I also abuse those two ERLL as often as I can. I haven't played my Timbers in awhile but I'm sure they do fine too.

You can try it here on the CTF-1X. It has even more accel/decel quirks than the Ilya.

CTF-1X

For Assaults, I guess Battlemaster?

CTF-1X is really strong with Gauss/3LL, engine of choice.

Hi, fellow Mech Jocks;

I am wanting to increasing the amount of Assault-class 'Mechs (I currently have two right now) and have my eye on the Stalker 5S, so I was wondering, for those that own that 'Mech, what do you think of it? Is it a 'Mech that I should invest in or wait and (try) to be a Clan OmniMech (which I am still 6 million C-Bills away from being to get a Clan Heavy-class, like the Timber Wolf or Mad Dog?

Which of you all have had better luck with these two Clan OmniMechs?

Of all these choices, which are cheapest to kit out to a decent build? The Thunderbolts because they take standard engines?

Just kind of surprised that even with premium, I never seem to have enough Cbills.

The Timber Wolf has been, and will continue to be the one of the most versatile mechs in the game. It is the jack of all trades, and close to master of many. It is pretty darn expensive though.

The Stalkers are really solid mechs. Slow, yes. But great hardpoints, superb tanking and great firepower. They're really XL unsafe, however.

Stalkers with STDs will not set you back as much as Timber Wolves, if money is an issue. Otherwise, I would say, your preference.
Mad Dog if you want to have fun. It is pretty squishy, but it carries more firepower than your average Atlas, if you load it up with SRMs. It's got wayyyy more guns than it has armour, but what the heck, it's not a bad mech.

Yes. Thunderbolts with STDs are pretty cheap. And effective.

TDR-5S, 5SS, 9SE or TDR-9S instead of the 5S. I personally own a 9S, and it doesn't have them famous ERPPCs. (lol, bought it for more hardpoints)

5SS can still rock that 7MPL loadout and goes 80.4 elited, or you can switch out for 1LPL/6ML/MPL with a smaller engines. 9SE is very strong with 3LPL. 5S is good with LL. 9S has great generic energy quirks.

If you get bored of lasers, 9S/9SE can mount 2SRM6+A with 5 backup lasers. And the 9S has two ballistic hardpoints in the left arm (Their location is not great, but they add variety).

Plus, Thunderbolts are small, and a great fit into a CW drop deck. Ammo independency makes it reliable as well. No explosions, no running out of ammo.

There is no fast Assault really...

You can get heavies 75-90km/h, TBR/EBJ or a BLKNT, WHM.... lots to pick from.

BLR-1G

That is one of my troll builds, that is oddly effective....

Also there is the Wubshee...

BNC-3M

again 70+ Kmh is nothing to ignore on an assault class mech...

Never said my Trollmaster was a good build, just that it is surprising to see the amount of people that turn their back to it, after they blow off a ST....

I tried piloting the Thunderbolt some time ago, but I did not find it the best 'Mech for me, so I sold it and never looked back.

I got the T-Bolts for the same reason. I needed an IS drop deck and they are cheap.

Great? no. But cheap.

Yeah there are some builds that can/will get you up there.

Like all things though, are they ideal etc.

I still love my DWF. No issues running it, always good fun running it. This one always brings the laughs for me, literally melt things in a cycle from 600m+ DWF 6LPL

Still can't really get the basic direwolf to work though. It always gets left behind and the kgc's slightly faster speed (mastered) helps. Almost same loadouts etc but the direwolf seems to get focused down more. I'm thinking whether its the difference between the c-uac5 vs the is uac 5 that's making my damage numbers drop a lot more as well. And I tend to brawl in the kgc. Should the direwolf not brawl?

Current stats and cuac 5 accuracy vs uac5 accuracy is similar at 56%

The DWF is a poor brawler because it lacks twist range, speed, turn rate, favourable hitboxes etc.

Put the Dire at 400 m and farther, and it will DESTROY mechs. It's just poor at close range.

Yes, the DWF is focused more, because a meta DWF (5UAC5/3UAC5 2UAC10/Gauss LPL) can remove a side torso outright for ANY mech (and death for IS XL mechs) in 5 seconds.

Essentially, maintain your distance, make those AC shots count.

The direwolf is the highest priority target on the field. Once you get into a brawling situation I.e. 4v4, all 4 of those enemy mechs will usually hit the direwolf with everything, and it will die quickly. Generally the dire works better in situations where you can only be shot by one enemy. It's not an easy mech to play, but it can maintain extremely high DPS. Might also be worth trying 2 LPL, 4 ERML and 2 gauss.

So its been pretty bad for my KDR after getting the TBR even after trying a few different builds from metamechs. Seem much more fragile and unforgiving than an assault.

I'm thinking is it a playstyle issue? For IS assaults, I pretty much just commit and push. Do piloting Clan mechs involve a lot more poking?
