Some letter decals are bigger than others.
It just boggles my mind that a simple thing like making the 26 letters in the alphabet a consistent size should be:
- hard
- not spotted by anyone at PGI prior to release
- not fixed immediately the moment it was reported
Scaling fixes will be in the December patch for the alphanumeric Decals that needed them, along with some minor alignment fixes. A few were off by a pixel or two (my fault, sorry). I've also narrowed the M and W slightly, as they appeared a bit wide compared to the rest.
We've also bumped up the resolution of the alphanumeric Decals from 128 to 256 so they'll look a bit better when placed, and we've fixed the issue from last patch where the Symbol, Signage, and Word Decals could appear jagged or pixelated when viewed from a distance.
Unfortunately there are still some artifacts with the rendering of Decals in the MechLab that can make them appear as if they have different scaling; part of the issue comes down to how anti-aliasing deals with the stroke around the letters and numbers. From one angle a letter can appear to be taller than its sibling because the stroke isn't rendered as clearly for that sibling from the angle you may be looking at it.
In the image below the scale and placements are identical, but because of the issue described above there can appear to be variations in scale based on the angle.
We do also have a known issue with how Decal scaling is adjusted with the mouse-wheel that can cause slight deviations in scale when placed. If you notice a Decal is oddly scaled compared to another, and the 'steps' from your scaling adjustment should make them the same scale, you may need to re-apply the Decal once, or a couple of times, to ensure the scaling is accurate.
Hoping we can address that last issue in an early-2017 patch.
