When in doubt, uninstall and then reinstall.

An error might have been created in the patching process.

Sounds like it was not able to read a file. Have you tried using the repair tool or reinstalling?

I switched to steam this last stent of play. Originally I had the stand alone launcher.

I switched to steam because I got tired of I installing and re installing because patches would break the game

So I see steam isn't free of this either?

Where do I find this repair tool when using steam?

Go to your Steam application's Library.

Right click on MWO.

Go to Properties.

Go to Local Files.

Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.

hi Darth

it sounds like your system is having some sort of trouble and not the game
changing over to steam would normally resolve any local game file issues
so your pc is likely missing something , its probably a out of date driver or something blocking you

before we get start i recommend you have an ad blocker installed
https://adblockplus.org/
the internet is a filthy place and you should protect your self

ok now run these two Microsoft installers

direct X
https://www.microsof...x?id=35
click download
then untick any of the extras it offers on the next page , then click "no thanks and continue"
this will save the DXWEBSETUP.exe that you need to run

this program will check what versions of DX you have installed and get for you all the ones you are missing
direct x controls how your video card talks to games , so its very important to have up to date

Visual C++ Redist
https://www.microsof...s.aspx?id=48145
this will offer you a choice between vc_redist.x64.exe and vc_redist.x86.exe
i recommend running both , if your system complains about one do not worry just skip it
but this contains a lot of reference code that games like to use in a common manner instead of reinventing the wheel each time they make a new game
so its handy to have them on your pc when the game looks to use it

general drivers
http://www.iobit.com...ver-booster.php
click download , it will open a cnet page , click download again (big green center screen button only if more show up)
driver_booster_setup.exe will download
during the install untick install advanced system care (if you want to try it do it later and at your own risk)
after install click "give up my gift"

it will run a scan (and possibly open a web page, just close that if it does)
after the scan is finished it will give you a list of drivers to install
install all of them (is the default option)
hit the big red "update now" button on the top right
it might offer you an upgrade to pro version, just click "continue update"

after lots of downloading and installing, it will probably want to reboot your pc , do it
after you have rebooted, run the driver booster 3 program again
just to make sure it finished everything , also sometimes your drivers are so old that you need newer ones before you can get access to other new drivers , so it might even pay to do another reboot after it finishes any additional drivers and then check one last time

the program is free, so after your up to date , you can either uninstall it or keep it around and run it from time to time
this is not something you need to do often tho, once a month is overkill for most users

i hope this helps
good luck

see you on the field

"only 128 of 0 bytes read." Error is from a corrupted file. If on steam Validate your files, If using the MWO standalone client use the repair tool in the patch launcher. The Repair tool is under the gear top right of the patcher.

I had Hard drive error problems years back on a system.. It was all due to a Bad stick of ram.. Took me about a month of testing every darn part, and about 10 system installs to figure out why my system kept getting corrupted. Are you having issues with other things as well?

there are free programs you can get to test ram.. But perhaps you have other issues.. A good thing to do on occasion is back up your system, format your drive and do a completely fresh install. I just did it myself and installed win 10... System is running much smoother now Posted Image

also check your mother board drivers, and other updates, like Bios, and anything else that can get updated.. One bad driver can screw up an entire system

occasionaly on startup I get boot file is missing.

reset fixes it. but it is troublesome

I'm running the same 8gigs of ddr3 1333 ram I put in six years ago.

and the occasional boot fail has me thinking hard drive error.. but I had not considered bad ram.

ran the windows boot repair but it found nothing wrong

disk check shows no errors.

going to follow the driver advice above for shits and giggles.

also, sometimes my sound stops working during games.

I can alt tab out and have sound elsewhere, just not in games.

I have 5pt surround sound speakers hooked straight into the mb
and a logitec headset ran from usb that has 7.1 surround sound.

I'm always fighting with my pc to get it to switch between the two.
I blame windows 10

popup blocker = no go. windows 10 edge not supported

Dxsetup = equal or better dx detected. no further action required

C++ = go. both 64 and 86

driver updater= pain in the ***.. trying to sell me **** and download other programs.. and get money... but it seems all my drivers are "very old" dispite knowing how to update them myself from manufacturer websites... I did build the damn computer afterall.

but whateva.. running through its list of "very old" drivers and updating.. bad feeling this is going to break my pc, but I'm on the verge of doing a fresh install anyway so.. LEROOY!!!!

Yeah, those driver programs sometimes don't actually have the web address of the truly most up-to-date driver.. and a lot of drivers aren't Win10 compatible.

Speedfan has a decent SMART diagnostic to test your HDD's health.. and it's free: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

As for the memory, I keep a CD of a memory diagnostics tool laying about, but you can test it from within Windows: http://www.thewindow...ol-in-windows-7
