So I have a supply cache sitting around that MAY contain an Ice Fridge Ferret Prime. They are truly the most hideous Clan mech I have ever seen, but I'm still curious - are they actually good mechs? If so, can anyone suggest workable builds for it? All variants accepted since if I do managed to strike luck (or "luck", depending) then I'll also take a plunge and get two others for eliting

Scroll down to the Ice Ferrets builds. I can personally vouch for IFR-D build.Feels like Arctic Cheetah's big brother.

They are great for scouting but mostlikely not worth to spent a supply cache key for them.

Well that supply cache ended up giving me a single Class V jump jet. Hooray

Good? Ha... No, no the Ferret is not good unless you just want to use it for fun.

Actually it is, even occasionally popping up in comp.
That said, if you level them you want a D and any two others that are not the Prime. Lacking a CT energy hard point, the prime is the worst variant by far.

Yeah I agree the ifr-d is my go to mech for scouting, not quite as good in the quick play queues, but when you know you're only fighting sub 55tonners, theres no mech you really fear. You seriously outgun everything you can't outrun, plus you have significant offensive and defensive quirks. I run mine with 4xSPL 24pt alpha + 2srm6 (2.5tonnes ammo) 24pt alpha. And I don't even think it looks that bad. Then again maybe I'm used to it, according to my profile, I've spent nearly 5times as long in the IFR-D as I have in any other mech. Beware though the prime is the least flexible without the ct energy

I own three of them and use them on a regular basis. There are simply better mechs out there, so stop recommending the ferret to relatively new players.
