Escort mission where the 'package' is a completely unpredictable, happy go lucky 8 year old, darting off in every direction at once, dashing through enemy lines singing 'Everything is Awesome' while firing their weapons at anything that moves?

Good one, though I think in my son's case 'What does the mech say?' is more likely.

Allemachtig...

Although I have to admit, pulling a full laser alpha kill does sometimes make me go 'Pew Pew Pew' rather loud, making the mrs echo me from the couch. :D

Made good use of this weekend event's premium time by having some private matches with my son. Covered all kinds of things:
Running one way while shooting another way (trial Cheetah)
Leading shots with an AC/20 and SRMs (trial Orion)
Locking on with LRMs and dumb firing them (trial Trebuchet)
Gauss rifle use (trial Cauldron Born)
Weapon max. range

He was completely pumped as well. He liked these lessons with daddy better than playing matches (probably because it always ended with a fight to the end)

Any people have any experience with Sync dropping in MWO?

Tried to do that a few times with my son this week (nice to be able to play together with or against each other without going in the far more skill demanding group queue) but no luck, ended up in separate games every time. We were using mechs that had low percentages in the matchmaker btw.

So what is your experience? How often would you say a sync drop succeeds?

Oh, in adition, my son made a remark that someone was talking about him in the start of the match chat (he recognized someone saying 'timpie tampie' in chat. It being English he didn't get what was said though. Quickly looked over and saw that someone was asking how he was doing with the game in general. Managed to reply with a quick "ok thx"
Mys son thought it really cool, so thanks for the remark! Posted Image

I sometimes see people sync-dropping on the Oceanic server, 3+ guys from the same unit. I think this has to do with the fact that the Group queue is so small there, that it can be the only way to get matches in reasonable time.

Might be worth trying on the Oceanic -- the smaller player pool there is, the more likely the MM needs to put you in the same games. Is your Tier exactly the same? Maybe having an alt-account at the same tier as your son might help.

(It's something of a pet peeve of mine how difficult it is for two casual players to play together in MWO. That's all "group" play most people would ever need, I think, play with that son/brother/friend of theirs. In World of Warships 2-3 mans can go to the random queue, and it works pretty well. Here we're forced into the grinder of the group queue...)

Yeah, my son plays MWO with me sometimes. He's getting better, and he will be awesome once he completely understands what to do when. There is a HUGE learning curve, and he has autism with a lot of obessive-compulsive tendencies.

You know, when i was in 3rd grade way back in 1980, i learned to play dungeons and dragons.. I had many books, and would stay up late at night reading them to learn the ins and outs. We used to have sleep over parties and play D&D all weekend long, staying up all night playing by candle light. Old school D&D was very deep and complicated, but kids can learn, sometimes quicker than adults..

I can only imagine how much in awe i would of been with something like this as a kid.. And instead of making Texted based adventures in DOS, i could be using full on tools and making full conversions in games like Dragon age, or skyrim! Damn lucky kids!

ARISE THREAD!!! I SUMMON THEE FROM THE GRAVE!!!.................................for I did it again.............. Posted Image

I mentioned in the first post that I also have a daughter, and yes she now also has an account. So in much the same vein as my first post: if you see some terrible player called 'Spinnetje' (little spider) in the game, that's actually just a 7 year old girl having fun with the game. She was disappointed she couldn't use the name of her favorite stuffed animal for her Pilot Name (already taken) but she just loves spiders as well. Posted Image

I turned off VOIP of course, and she hardly knows any English, so I hope she won't suffer too much abuse from anyone.

She also gets as much personal training from her father as possible (thanks PGI for that premium time!) but it will still take some time. Still, she has a better grasp of the WASD buttons than her brother did at the beginning, and she has already managed a game with damage in the low hundred (trial Warhawk) so I'm confident.

What also helps with that confidence is the way my son has improved with this game. I re-read all posts in the thread and I caught myself saying how he'd probably be bad for years. Nope, just shows what I know, must be some stuffy old dad or something. Posted Image

He's getting good damage numbers, amount of assists and some regular kills and KMD's. He's still tier 5, which is not helped by his love for Lights (managed to kill off a quarter of my own tier xp bar levelling mostly Lights this past month) but I'm confident that 2017 will see him in tier 4 at the very least.

So there I go, another terribad unleashed, and another kid made happy in this world of BattleTech. Posted Image

I can't help but wonder if I ran into one of them today - I ran across a Dragon that chose to shut down in the middle of the match - but I kept shooting it. Eventually they turned it back on, after I took out the torso and the leg (couldn't get a rear shot - positioning was bad)

/shrug.

As long as the terribads don't get discouraged from dying... it's all good.

Nope, that wasn't her. But spectating after dying in those tier 5 matches shows a lot of that going on. Posted Image
