After the arrival of the Clans I can't make the On1 work, particularly the on1-k.

If I use a standard engine, it's kinda slow, if I use an XL engine, well, the torsos are giant magnets for pew pew, similar to those of a Victor.

It's even ignored in favour of more dangerous mechs, IIC hunchies or others.

Any advice on how to play it/builds?

Sorry, but MWO Orion is going to spend the rest of its life in some unused corner of your hangar. There is not much what you can do, since you can't change the basic geometry of the 'Mech.

The geometry is awesome. It spreads damage very evenly with torso twist, BUT due that the torsos are huge, so XLs are tough to use Posted Image

Why not make more use of energy weapons? It has -15% heat. If I had trouble surviving in a brawl I'd just plug 4 ER Larger Lasers on that and side poke 'til I'm light swarmed.

Typical Orion (with the exception of the Hero Mech) has all energy hardpoints in its low arms. That means that you must show itself up. And despite those Accel/Decel quirks, it's not too good in poking.

The AC/10 is a poor weapon with low projectile speed, bad cooldown and range. Recommend that you go withe a AC/5, UAC/5 or AC/20.

PGI has forgotten the Orion. It's missile slots are still very salvo size restricted and new mechs are not. It has no PPC quirks even though the canon ON1-K carried a Lostech Snub-nose PPC. This should be emulated with quirks to the ON1-K and Protector at the very least.

ON1-K has an unmissable CT so you might as well use it as long range with XL engines. Paint it black or a disruptive pattern. Black seems best. Gauss Rifle with CASE and 3x LLAS paired to the Gauss charge-up is good. LRMs on an Orion used to be great, but they have nerfed those LRMs away long, long, ago.

Balance-wise the Marauder and Warhammer can do the same and much more than the Orion and do it better and they get better quirks by far.

The only stand-out is the ON1-M which has the ability to fire an LBX10 every 1.3 seconds once mastered and given the recharge module. Match that LB-10X with 3x L Pulse and not much will beat you although you will take a lot of damage due to the fat CT and STs.

This is what I came up with...

P.S. I didn't balance out the armor (forgot), but I normally go about 10 or 8 for rear armor.

I changed it a little bit because ammo issues. The AC20 variant seems to perform better in the on1-k

The VA I have it with two lrm15, and ac10 and 2 meds.

I'd suggest you sell it and get something else.

Or join me in my Crusade to get the Quadrupeds!

Never bought the Orion. Everyday I am reminded that my decision was correct.

The Orion has the same problem as the Cataphract.

Every time I see one, I target the right side torso Especially if the target scan confirms that it runs some ballistic weapon). The destruction of RT means that the Orion loses two thirds of its firepower - with that nice bonus that if it runs XL engine, it will die on spot.

well, the old rule of thumb still stands: If you can't make something useful, drop everything and mount 4 LL and max engine you can fit with enough heatsinks.

This is the same for the orion, and if you go XL, take 4 LPL with an XL350ish. That works. Not the best mech out there but as every second line tier mech in this game, stay with the horde and shoot stuff. Not very complicated...

It needs a - crit chance quirk like the Atlas D and Hunchback.

Orion-M
1 AC20. 2 LPL 1 SRM 4 2 SRM 6

50KPH
76.4 Alpha

Point it at something and hope for the best.

This is what I used in the past with good success:

ON1-K

I use the ON1-VA as my SRM carrier

My poor poor poor decision making skills led me to buy about half of the Hero mechs in the game.
The bad half.

Even amongst that crowd - the Protector doesn't see any play.

I play my Orions like mini Atlases. They work as mid-game brawlers. You are basically never in range for the initial engagements, just don't lose armor by the time you are in brawling range. 89% Orion showing up mid game once you have range can do a lot.

They are awful on the whole though.
