It is standard kit because in the TableTop game you frequently play games that last through multiple repair intervals, and it is cheaper and faster to repair an engine that is only 25% destroyed than one that is completely cored-out.


It also prevents the ammo explosion transferring to the head, saving the pilots life. Remember in Btech campaigns pilots can die.

That's quite profound coming from someone who has up till this point not even been involved in this thread. Tell me exactly how it is that I have "Attacked" you?

No need to mention the number of times during this thread I am accused of either trolling or being "too thick to help". Not to mention the "inventive" and "suggestive" pics and gif's people have so "helpfully" posted. Do I get an apology too?

In table top, damage does not transfer to or from the head.

Ironically, CASE can save a mech, but indirectly kill the pilot by giving him more chances to die in combat. Remember that an ammo/Gauss crit deals 2 points of damage to a pilot. I've seen a pilot with 2 damage marks from falls have his mech's Gauss Rifle critted out, dealing 2 more damage, and then the Gauss explosion triggering a missile ammo explosion dealing the final 2 damage to the pilot and killing him/her. Without CASE and with auto-eject on, the pilot would have taken a total of 4 hits and been ejected.

Yes, it's kind of rare, but it can happen.

I've seen 1t of MG ammo get popped by a TAC (Through Armour Critical), deal 400 damage to a Mech, with the large explosions rule damage another near by Mech, causing a cascading engine failure, damage a thirdid mech, causing another ammo explosion....

CASE can save the pilot's life per Total Warfare page 128. That alone is reason to run it in an XL in tabletop

MechWarrior Survival: The MechWarrior dies when the destruction/loss of the head or cockpit occurs, or if the center torso is destroyed by an ammunition explosion or area-effect weapon. If the center torso is destroyed in any other fashion, the MechWarrior does not automatically die. CASE mounted in the center torso does not protect a MechWarrior from a center torso ammo explosion.
