A Change of Venue...
March 24th
Multiple reports came in regarding a disturbing change that has taken place in the Zion Province.
Calls flooded the administrative offices on Asuncion yesterday morning as anxious citizens noticed that the sun appeared brighter than normal. Pedestrians stopped in the middle of the street and schools held recess to witness the strange phenomenon.
Many feared it was an unnatural solar event. Others said it may be an omen of things to come.
Later in the day, Sergeant Kjudoon, chief liaison officer of the Seraphim Regiment, contacted local officials and explained the event. He reported that the regiment had moved their yardship SYS
New Asuncion eastward into Davion space.
A new sense of fear began to grip the planet as residents realized the protective covering of the Angels of Asuncion was gone.
"When will they be back?" one reporter asked at a press conference held at the Seraphim Regiment base later that same day.
"It's kinda hard to tell at the moment," Sgt. Kjudoon replied. "I'm not at liberty to share why the colonel is moving the unit to Davion space except to say that it is part of a short-term mission that comes to us straight from the LCCC and the Dieudonne Military District. It is a Davion contract taken under Marik's advisement."
"Yes, I get that," the reporter asked, "but when will they be
back?"
"I'm sorry, ma'am. That information is classified."
This response elicited more murmurs from the crowd.
"Rest assured, though the presence of the yardship is gone there is still a sizeable Seraphim presence on the planet. The Seraphim always leave a large garrison force behind, not only to protect our dependents but also honor our permanent contracts with Atreus to defend the 'Mech and component industries located here on Asuncion. That contract is in its sixth year now. It's been long enough that Asuncion is home to us."
His answer silenced the murmurs and the conversation shifted from questions of fear to inquiries about the Seraphim families and how the move was affecting those left behind.
When the press conference concluded, Kjudoon left the platform and exhaled slowly as he looked up at the ceiling of the Meeting Hall.
I certainly hope you know what you're doing this time, Colonel, he thought as he dropped his head and made his way to the door.
