120 posts and 6 pages of mostly giddy excitement, in about 2 hrs since Bishop posted this, all because of another mech they are selling.

And we wonder why "wanna buy a mech pack?" is the sole drive of this game.

no wonderment here.

We play stompy robot games, in the end, because they look cool. So inevitably, as long as the game itself id minimally viable.... people will play as long as the robots look cool (a lesson proven by how dismally hawken, with it's walking trashcans did)

I'm jaded and grumpy.... but still know that if the Crusader, Thug or Assassin was posted tomorrow? I'd probably buy it.

*sigh*

Pokemechs.

Wat? What thread have you been reading? I'm seeing mostly "meh" with one or two "yay!" but mostly meh.

Perhaps you are right. I'm letting my ennui affect my objectivity. I guess what I am trying to get at is many of the same folks posting here with at least a bit of enthusiasm, or at least vague interest, are some of the same folks who keep telling me (and the community) that the only way to get PGI to make the core game better is to refuse to spend money on mech packs.

I think however, that this thread and the...let us call it merely "interest" as opposed to "excitement" (my apologies) which folks are showing for its subject matter, illustrates that trying to get people to refuse the Sirens' call of a new mech is pure futility (see for example Bishop's pokemech comment above, as well as countless others that I too have made in the past). Thus, PGI keeps selling us mechs because -despite all the threads which insist otherwise- the sales pitch of "MOAR MECHS" is what we show the most consistent enthusiasm for. Alas.

Meh. Not a bad mech, and looks almost exactly like the redesigned version except without the stupidly oversized torso.

Yet I'm not excited. I am a die hard clan player, and even I think what the game needed next was the Javelin or Assassin. IS mechs of a lower weight point. Light mechs, specifically, need some love.

Hmmm, Javelin or Assassin... Option A or option B... How about option C because why not both?

Don't get me wrong, I actually have said in the past that the MAD-IIC is a 'Mech I do want. An XL400, 85 ton Marauder? Yes, am want. That said, I'm just supremely frustrated because my favorite class to play is Lights, specifically the smallest and squirreliest, but we have had four Heavies, two Assaults, three Mediums, and zero Lights.. The last Light we got was the Jenner IIC. WTF, man?

And not only are we not getting more Lights, the Lights we do have are so bad now that nobody really wants to play them during unit practice. It f*cking sucks.

Ok so PGI is gonna blow the MAD up a bit for the IIC and then a few months later blow it up a bit more for the MAD II. I could live with that.

PGI subsidized lights in the old packs by forcing people to buy them to get the mechs they wanted. So we got a couple lights every now and again. Now PGI is hammering down on the single mech model which means they can only really sell the stuff most people play which is heavies and assaults. I wouldn't expect more than 1 light per tech base a year if that sorry to say.

If that's the stance they are going to take, then they need to blow open the class-based release valves permanently in MM because they will be forever clogged with bigs.

Bishop. Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Stuck in a whirlwind... no escape from the Clan mech releases!

Almost every single variant of this mechs uses out-of-timeline weapons and/or equipment, so PGI is going to have to invent at least 4-5 variants of their own.

Yeah, that way they can sell a single mech for 240 bucks, its Clan, so they have to be over priced.

To those people bitching about too many clan mechs in a row:

Really?

In 2016 it's gone:

Marauder (IS)
Warhammer (IS)
Rifleman (IS)
Archer (IS)
Kodiak(Clan)
Phoenix Hawk (IS)
Viper (Clan)
Cyclops (IS)

Plus, there are WAY more IS mechs in game already as it is:

8 IS Lights to 5 Clan Lights
13 IS Mediums to 6 Clan Mediums
13 IS Heavies to 6 Clan Heavies
10 IS Assaults to 6 Clan Assaults

While I'm not advocating equal numbers, IS has gotten 6 out of the last 8 mech releases. So even if Clan gets the next 4 in a row, that makes it 6 each. Could PGI have balanced it out and alternated each month? Yeah sure, but they were busy raking in Unseen money. Now they are trying to even it up.

Just cause IS got it's cake first, doesn't mean the Clans shouldn't get theirs too. I say this as someone who gets both sides.

My worst fear right now is that the next IS 'mech will be the Marauder II. That'll sell like hotcakes too, right? And that we won't see another light 'mech until 2017. Posted Image

Well, only if the -IIC sells well enough. I am not a mean spirited person, but I just cannot support the route PGI is going with their Mechs atm.
I might have considered the Marauder II under different circumstances. But this...

And let us be honest: the Marauder is an icon, but it is not like it is the only Mech that sells. And it is not like everything with its name sells automatically.
I am pretty sure a Wasp+Stinger double-pack for $20 would have sold well too.

Now it takes months before I may have something to look forward to.

Okay. Seriously. We know that it'll have similar geometry and hitboxes to the Marauder, just slightly bigger. What will the hard points look like, engine cap (max speed, more accurately), etc be? This may be a whelming release, another Clan mech, but I think she'll be a solid chassis.

Well, while the Marauder is a pure energy boat, the Warhawk is capable of some truly devastating B/E builds like 1GR, 2LPL 3ML, 1GR 3LPL, etc.

And it can take two UAC10 PPC, two UAC10 3SRM4 etc.

Still lots of viable non-LPL boat builds available, no need to panic before the MAD-IIC releases.

If she can go all the way up to XL 400, it'll actually be an extremely solid chassis. Since it starts at a 340, it definitely will go up to 400 unless PGI decides to break their own rules again.

Wow, not a light?

This makes 12 non-light mechs in a row. And even then, the most recent release was the IIC pack, with one of each. We haven't seen a dedicated light since the Urbie.

It's a waste land out here for us light pilots.

Light mechs don't sell. I'm sorry, Kadreal. But we're stuck with what we got for a while.

And I complained about too many IS mechs in a row, too. It's a bad pattern. Not all of us play both sides. Going 4 months or more without a mech sucks. For either side. Going a year without aLight? Criminal.

And that's because PGI set themselves up to fail. Role warfare never occurring, their pricing model for MC and Chills, and overall crap game balance. Pretty pathetic to toss in the towel and simply not make more lights.
