People say PSR is XP based, but what influences it is W/L. So...ELO only one step removed.

And, No. I turned my PSR thing off when it was introduced. Don't know what it is. Don't want to know what it is. And don't see any reason why anyone else should know what it is.

To be blunt, I've never been convinced that people want the public tier system just to evaluate how well the MM works. Always struck me as a pretext for getting the e-peen metrics out there.

Of course it is.

You get the same people complaining that it's XP bar and doesn't mean anything -- yet they insist that it needs to be public. Things don't add up here.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it.

Tiers don't mean anything.

When Tiers were announced people who could think for themselves said that it is flawed and everyone gonna hit Tier 1 eventually.

Now after a year... everyone is Tier 1 or 2 and guess who were right?... The community?!!!!... The ones who don't know anything about game design?!!.... no way!!!

I just created an alt account. You couldn't be more wrong. After 5 games I was put into Tier 3 as I understand it, the first few games are weighted so that people are not stuck in Tier 5 grinding and obliterating everyone. There are some folks in Tier four and five who are new and learning and will probably advance. There are however some special kind of awful players down there. I have even seen three gold mechs in three and four.

Now while players who grasp the basics and play meta and follow their team, psr will eventually reward them into Tier One perhaps. There will however be players who will likely never advance. I have been playing six months and the community is so small I do not see many people who I used to see in Tier Four when I was there. That is until I created an alt...

Maybe the Tier system needs to be further refined to separate the really elite players, but then again the pool of players to draw from is not likely big enough to support that. I keep hoping as I progress that I will find players who don't come and stand behind you when you are poking... that hasn't happened yet.

I know I've asked for this before when the tier system was introduced, but I still would like it to be introduced.

When the match is over I'd like to see everybody's tier, team mates as well as enemies.
This would work just as in CS:GO where you after a match get too see the rank of all other players, this so that you can judge your own and the teams performance as well as review how the MM set you up.

There is no reason to allow players to hide their tiers when they play the game.
We already have public info on all players (the leaderboard) which could be considered far more sensitive than just the tier.

So, PGI, please make us see everybody's tier after the match!

People are already abusing the leader board as a shaming tool. Do you want PSR to be used as well?

Don't answer as it was a rhetorical question. I can already guess your intent just based on your post.

I think it is just an XP bar as long as you can get to tier 3.

With that said, I would like to remind everyone that there are some people that are perpetually in tier 4 and 5, because that is where they belong, no insult intended. Also, iirc if you do start the game really new, and accumulate a lot of matches before starting to get better, it takes more matches to get out of the low tiers than it does if a really good player started a "smurf" account. I could be wrong.

I do not normally tie people's validity to their tiers. MM puts almost everyone in the same matches, so we are all mostly on the same page as far as how matches play. There is even testimonial of Tier 1s and 5s in the same match. I've been at Tier 2 forever, and I really have no desire to grind to Tier 1. I'll just get there when I get there. No point in making the game even less fun.

Tiers don't mean a damn thing for a variety of reasons. First the tier system just needs you to not suck horribly and have a 1.0 W/L ratio to hit 1. Second people who primarily play FP and choose not to play QP have low tiers (hell I sit at three with 400 hours played because I hate not having some sort of objective.) Three even if you are horrible you could have people carry you to higher tiers how it's currently setup.

I don't really care about seeing individual players' tiers, but I would like to see both team's Collective PSR at the end of a match. It would be especially nice in Faction Play where there is no skill-based matchmaking.

A much requested feature at the time

Well, at least I requested it
An anonymous collection of Tiers, number of each Tier, per team.

Why do you even care about another player's Tier? Is it just some weak middle aged man thing where you need validation?

Just watched the latest video Snuggles put out and the two pilots left couldn't hit each other so the game timed out. Pretty sure it was a Tier 1 match... Posted Image

Tiers should be displayed on the tab scoreboard so I...
1) know who is likely to shoot me in the back
2) who is going to hide and never engage
3) who I can probably rely on to use basic tactics such as focus fire

A mostly irrelevant number isn't going to tell you any of that.

I started the most recent light mech challenge as tier 4. I ended it in tier 3 and 10th spot on the adder leader board. Tier ratings are a joke. People who use them as validation are even more so. Just imagine that tiers were public and you couldn't hide from the fact that lower level tier players are rolling you. Could your fragile ego handle that?

And this is important because?

With all the problems existing in this game right now, I'd have to say that the last one on my mind is the thought, "Golly gee, if only I could have known the tiers of my randomly matched Pugs before our Mechs powered on!"

1) It's and XP bar.

2) You'd just use it for Ad Hominem.

I am for player choice on whether to display it or not except in one area: leaderboard events. I also think leaderboard events should be split between public and group queue lines.

The tier system, whether you think its just an exp bar or not, definitely effects the experience of your opponents. When I play my teir 2 clan account, I definitely notice the effect mid range folks have on game play.

Just Like ELO I don't thing the Playerbase is near high enough for those methods of competitive team balancing to work. You probably need about 15k to 20k players at least for it to work well

If tier actually meant anything I'd say yes.

PGI has made it a meaningless number linked to the near impossible to lose PSR exp bar.

I have no idea how people could know this when there is absolutely no way to confirm it. This is really the only reason I'd like to be able to see people's tiers in-game. To confirm whether or not this kind of thing is actually happening or if it's just people assuming things because they think "nobody could be that good/bad without being in tier 1/5!" much in the same way that skilled players often get accused of hacking when they're really not.

I don't need to see the tier of individual players but I do want to know what Tier range my game is before I play it. A simple THIS IS A TIER 1-3 or TIER 3-5 game is fine with me.

For a TEAM-based game I sure don't know anything about my team, not even their movement speed, loadout, experience or effective range.

In solo QP, except for outlier cases, the PSR average would be pretty close if not the same. If the averages are the same or close, by definition, the total PSR for each team would also be the same or close to each other.

Based on previous PGI info, the gap would be slightly wider in group QP.

Far as Faction Play is concerned, there does not seem to much value in knowing the PSR numbers given the other variables that come into play.

To be honest, there is already so much e-peen waving in discussions here with personal stats that I am not inclined to encourage it further. Probably the reason why PGI only introduced the option to display PSR after replacing the zero sum Elo rating system which was a more accurate measurement of "skill" (based on metrics used).
