IIRC, it got two direct nerfs. If i'm not mistaken, it had 20% (combined for energy and laser) quirks first, which got reduced to 15% (for everything) and then to 10% (15% for range) where it is now (5% energy, 5% laser heat/cooldown, 10/5% for range.)

Could've sworn that was only one patch, either way, it isn't what made the mech rare.

It's more about that other mechs are being played more.. Like Kodiaks... But they are still darn great mechs..

I still like Stalkers, but my playstyle relies more on speed of positioning.

Everyone's does.... b/c PGI is too stupid to realize that speed is worth 5 times it's weight in firepower and armor it's possible to do damage while preventing the guy you shot from being able to shoot back.

This was the case even before the Kodiak.

That's easy. All IS mechs would be hotter and the Clan mechs would beat the IS to the central feature of every map. I don't think a lot of IS lights would be able to compete with stock engines.

Stalkers are great mechs and will always be so due to high mounted hardpoints and good hit boxes. I still have my 3F and my Misery which I take out occasionally, but I also have many mechs to choose from now and am currently levelling up my Marauders (aka mini Stalkers).

I think the biggest reason you don't see many is that Stalkers are old mechs in a weight class that's currently being saturated with new shiny toys for people to try out. They've been around since release so it only makes sense that some people feel like playing something different.

Stalkers are still viable mechs, and I see them every now and again. Had at least one match tonight where there were 2 on my team. A properly utilized Stalker can still be a fearsome hellbeast of a mech.

They have simply fallen out of favor while people fool around with Kodiaks. That and since quirks and the realization that speed and high hardpoints are advantageous, it has also taken a backseat to the BattleMaster.

I don’t know about anyone else but I love my Stalkers. Mastering them now.

I wish someone had told me how fun they were years ago :)

I don't see anything wrong with them really. A little low on quirks, but quirks usually can't fix bad geometry, which the Stalker does not have to worry about.

Stalker, by the virtue of its hardpoints and hitboxes, will never go out of style. However, if we want Stalker to be popular again, vote for quad ballistic Stalker for Loyalty mech!

Keep in mind that these days you can choose from 16 Assault 'Mechs (both IS and Clan), so it's not as one or two years ago, when you had Atlas, Victor, Awesome and Stalker.

I think you're onto something here. We have more and more mechs available each month. These days, unless a mech is REALLY in vogue, it is ... well, rare.

I'll take it over the Kodiak-3, but we're gonna need to plug an XL engine in there to make those UAC5s fit. Posted Image

Stalker hitboxes are great for face staring, so XL shouldn't be too much of a liability. I say this as a long time face staring Stalker lurmer.

Perhaps down the road PGI will eventually release LFE, for those who do not prefer to live dangerously.

If you want the popularity to be temporary that is.

Now a 1B/1E in the arm however, that would be impressive, or one that had a higher speed cap.

Right.,,, marauder, and warhammer.. ext.. Like i said,, to me it is more about other mechs becoming popular, and not so much the idea that stalkers are not good.. Maybe i am wrong, but that's just the way i feel.. I still love my stalkers.. And some how being in my "Misery" is perfect for PUG life...
