Greetings MechWarriors,

We'd like to set up a Machinima Contest at MechCon for all of you very creative MechWarriors of the community!

Here’s how it works:

1) Create a video (5 minutes maximum) about MechWarrior Online using the game as your source.

2) Submit this video as unlisted on YouTube (if you wish to keep it hidden until the contest date)

3) Submit the unlisted link of the video to community@mwomercs.com by November 15th

PGI will review all submissions and pick our favorite 5 of the submitted videos to show on the big screen on the main stage during MechCon on December 3rd 2016.

Once all 5 videos have been revealed and shown, the guests of MechCon will be able to place their votes for their favorite Machinima video.

Near the end of the night at MechCon, the 1st place winner will be announced and given a cash prize of $500 USD!!

Additional Notes:

Contestants do not have to be at the MechCon venue to be a participant.

The videos will be shown on the live Twitch Stream as well.

Everyone at MechCon will be eligible to place 1 vote.

Great idea, we have had some cool videos made over the years. Hopefully you can post all the videos that didn't make it into the top five.


Any issues with using music? Not sure about the laws over there.

Yes, if you are using music make sure you have the rights to use it and they are credited properly.

Great idea and contest! Though I suggest the top 5 all receive in game prizes as well for there efforts and not just the winner with a prize.

Seems legit. I mean, why didn't they think of this.

Any chance 3D artists can submit animations? It'd probably be an unfair advantage, but it'd still be a fun thing to do for the convention even if it's technically not qualified to win the contest.

Expand it PGI find a few categories that can also help showcase the game be it youtube or elsewhere.. give out NGNG mech tshirts as prizes.. have someone's favorite mech 3D printed as prize... and for it all have the players at MWOC and any others who show up vote.. from mech poetry readings winner read by George Ledoux... lots of little simple things that can be done along the same lines ..

Can we use other video bits along with the game footage or is it limited to only game footage???

Recognition for qualified participants would be nice, even if they aren't selected for the top 5. When we ran a video contest in the past we also included in-game participation prizes for videos that qualified as entertaining for the staff and met the requirements.

The guidelines at the top specify that the game must be the source, so I imagine that means 3D programs are out.

Doesn't say anything about compositing additional elements in post-production though
