To draw an analogy, if the best drivers in a race all decide to drive Ferraris because they look cool and they have a good reputation, and thus Ferraris score highly in the race, that doesn't necessarily mean Ferraris are the best car, because they also had the best drivers behind the wheel.
You also have to consider that the only people who can even own a Kodiak right now are players who invest heavily in the game either by buying MC or by buying mech packs. That could also skew the data.
Look at the Dire Wolf, for example, which has also scored highly and yet is frequently discussed on the forums as a weak assault. It's possible that the DWF is actually in a good place, and it's also possible that good players went to the Dire as their go-to during this event because it's their favourite assault, one they feel comfortable piloting, rather than the 'best' assault right now. The latter would skew the data to make the DWF seem better than it actually is.
Yet another factor could be that, for the more popular mechs such as the Kodiak, competition is more fierce because the status of 'best Kodiak player' means quite a lot, while winning the Victor leaderboard, for example, might mean relatively little because the Victor isn't very popular. Fierce competition raises the bar because you have the most exceptional players in the game driving each other to higher and higher scores.

So yeah. Kodiak OP. But I don't put much stock in these numbers as a valuable metric in terms of comparing lights vs assaults, for example.
Now, in regards to Kodiak vs Atlas or Awesome or Highlander, I would say that these numbers are potentially a lot more useful. I can't think of any argument why the Kodiak's numbers would be artificially inflated. I'll keep visiting this thread, I look forward to seeing Kodiak apologists explain why the Kodiak is entirely average as an assault mech or why the cUAC10 nerf made it obsolete.

Leaderboards mean very little.

I also notice that the Awesome is one of the highest scoring mechs. #1 Awesome is at 3128, #10 Awesome is at 2653 points. By comparison, the #1 Atlas is at 2819 points and #10 Atlas is at 2504 points. The #2 King Crab is at 3150 points and #10 King Crab is at 2673 points.
In other words, except for that super skilled #1 King Crab pilot, the Awesome is doing very well compared to the Atlas and the King Crab. But why is this?
I suspect that this leaderboard is influenced by the fact that you can get absolutely insanely good matches by clubbing seals with the AWS-8R LRM boat on Polar Highlands, for example, when the enemy team has 8 clueless assault mechs. This will not normally be the case outside of these events. Indeed, a lot of the best assault mech LRM carriers are doing quite well, and this may explain why even the IS Highlander is getting surprisingly decent numbers (almost as good as the Highlander IIC, which is crazy)

yup saw this exact thing happen where, for what may be the first time in recorded history, I was actually with the LRM rain of doom instead of being on the other side. 3 awesomes show up on the team, awesome #1 asks are we all lrm boats" awesomes #2 and 3 promptly agree. I was in a LRM medium (cause i'm bad at assaults- I try to go forward in them) since brawling mediums vs 8 assaults on the other team didn't end well for me. we win 12-0, no one on our side was in seriously bad health at the end.
so the LRM is strong- not Kodiak strong- but strong this event.

It's perfectly in-line with all the other assaults. Kodiak pilots are just more skilled than the other scrubs in other equally capable mechs that aren't Kodiaks.
