There should be commentary by Duncan Fisher or some other person/character.

Basically, make it feel more like a sporting event than a battle in war.

What else should be apart of a Solaris game mode?

Nah! I want a 24+ no-holds-barred winner-takes-all last-man-standing furball. That is the only Solaris mode I am interested in.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I'd be okay with 12 player free for all last man standing chaotic mayhem though.
I'm worried about the spawning locations you see. But if the map is big enough or it has loooads of cover and/or multiple floors somehow 24 players would not be impossible.

There would be so much more prestige in winning a match....much greater chances of epic duels too.
Like that mexican standoff in the Bad, the Good and the Ugly.

Does 24man Last Man Standing = Hide and go seek for Mechs? Seriously the last man standing would also be the Last Man To Come Out Of Hiding And Shoot That Other Guy Who Was Fighting

That would quite possibly be true...unless there is a rule that says: Anyone not doing X amount of damage to an enemy within Y minutes is disqualified on the spot.

Then hiding will become hit and run.

Solaris... if you recall in MW4 had light, medium, heavy and assault tiers.
Each tier had like 3 or 4 battles.
You had to battle in each level to progress to the next.
there was a winner board if you will.
Winners for each weight class and an overall winner in the final free for all battle.
Something similar to that would be great.

In MW4 there was nowhere to hide and everyone had active radar anyway,
You could see everyone in the battle.

Ideally Solaris would have it's own maps or versions of existing maps.

But the free for all mode would be extremely fun.

They (as in PGI) said we are to get Solaris, but it has been so long ... yeah I am starting to think it isn't going to happen.

That's a good idea, since it's a free for all, it could be that just being the last one standing isn't enough to win.

I would be inclined to feel the same way except for the fact that they are finally implementing stock mode and seem to have given up on fw for now. They've got a bunch of new mappers too, so that would give a chance for them to flex that muscle.

Also, a Duncan Fisher hero mech for the Solaris release would be nice...although it might require a timeline jump (see below).

Based on his voice lines from MW4, we can figure out which mech and style he would use.


For weight class, Duncan says that mediums are the class where he made a name for himself. Thus, his hero mech should be a medium.

For mediums, when asked about which one he thinks is the best he says "My bet is on the Uziel." He cites it as having a good blend of armor, firepower, and speed; being an all-rounder kind of mech. Thus, his hero mech should be an Uziel variant.

For his playstyle, he talks about the tradeoff between guns, armor, and speed. His chosen style is "Guns, guns, and more guns." Thus, his variant should focus on heavy firepower with plentiful hardpoints (more than any other Uziel variant) and significant weapon quirks. The engine cap will be lower than other Uziels and it won't have JJs. Any agility or durability quirks should be either minimal or nonexistent to fully represent how he wants to use his mech.

Lastly, he talks about weapons. He favorite is the AC/5, because it has a fast recycle and can really keep somebody rocking. Thus, the variant's main guns should be a pair of AC/5s, with cooldown quirks of at least 10-15% or higher to truly "keep somebody rocking." These guns will probably be in the arms, and he might have like 2 energy hardpoints for backup weapons (one per side torso).

I just can't figure out what to name the hero mech...just calling it "The Contender" seems boring.

not necessary... just have everyone show up on radar.
in other words no hiding possible.

That sounds interresting. Could make do with smaller maps then. Smaller maps mean more maps each year.
I'd say from each weightclass match 3 players are selected to participate in the semifinal.
- Last man standing
- The guy with most kills. If that is the last man standing then the second in line.
- Highest percentage of armor left on mech. Shooting without getting shot in return is a skill too.

3/3/3/3 free for all in the semifinal match and the 2 or 4 survivors if you prefer that goes to the final.

Hit and run is viable. Lights are not supposed to stand toe to toe while trading firepower with huge mechs anyhow.
But sadly....Russ and Paul is extremely likely to screw Solaris up somehow. They have become foul forces of unnatural disasters to gamers everywhere.

PGI has said Solaris will not happen until the upgrade/change the game engine. So until we are on Cry5/Unreal4 no solaris.

Personally, I hated the free for all that was MWLL Solaris. I would prefer to see 1v1, 2v2 and 4v4 team battles to be parts of Solaris.
