On dry dusty surfaces if a light mech runs say, arround 100kph, debris can be left behind as it runs.
Whilst not only looking cool visually it could act as a balance in the eternal light vs heavy match up.
Bonus 1 for the light mech. As it runs away from you it kicks up a small dust cloud. your view of it and more is partially obscured making it harder to hit the fleeimg mech and see in.that area in general.
Bonus 2 for the light mech. The trail out kicks up is thick enough to reduce the effectiveness of any laser fire as the laser beam scatters.and burns up the particles in the air. Etc minus 5% damage
Disadvantage 1. You just turn.arround and catch a dust.trail leading behind a building. Aha you think. This won't happen with lower speeds though a light can still stalk.
In wet non dusty areas it would be nice to see all class mechs have debris.falling of their feet as they walk. Etc as an Atlas walks there is chunks of dirt and shrubs etcs falling of the soles of the feet.
P.S this is too.funny to leave out. I used google.voice with my android phone to say a similar sentance to the last one above and this is is what came out.

I don't think a little dust cloud would mess with the lasers.

An industrial or weapons-grade laser is going to be powerful enough to burn through any dust/debris cloud thrown up.

Yes the diminished power world only last a second or so if the laser didn't move but your wrong if u think it won't have a distinguishable effect.
A sand storm made of essentially non.transparent glass particles.which are continually replenished by the swirling atmosphere world ruin any lasers day.

no aerodynamics would. I'm thinking oblybthevreally fast mechs should kick up significant dust.like commando or Jenner at full speed. the dust wont be that high intially but maybevafter a second high enough tobcivervthe small mechs back.
Not saying its the best idea bit could be used for some fine balancing.

In that context, it's plausible. The downside is that the system requirements go up significantly when you get into particle effects and destructible environments. They're nice, and I have a system that can handle them. Not everyone does, and since the game is F2P the developer's need to aim for a broad market.
Then again, the Frozen City map is capable of generating weather environments that reduce visibility. I suppose it's possible to include things like dust being kicked up or, if I got my wish, a deployable smoke screen.
A laser isn't going to dissipate in that environment though. Accuracy will suffer, but if you get hit you'll take the full brunt of the blast.
