I believe that the clunky franken-build of the cryengine PGI is using right now is one of the biggest development obstacles atm.
Will PGI upgrade the engine?
Highly unlikely based on the future plans

Maybe we can find Russ in Mechcon and ask him in person... I have some more questions too.
Also, I'm hoping I can find paul and ask some questions.

I know a good question: "Why hast thou forsaken us, oh glorious Lord of Balance? The lowly Machine Gun peasants are dying in the streets, while you feast in your golden tower. I beg of thee, save thine citizens!"

For PGI it would be a big leap of faith, as new engine is gonna require a lot of things do be done from scratch. Time will tell whether Russ got the balls for it.

I would rather see them starting anew.
Like MWO 2.0 with unreal or another engine.
A lot of the mess we have has absolutely nothing to do with the engine they use.

To switch engine is nearly impossible. Than you can programm the game nearly new.
But upgrade to a newer version is Possible but neeads lots of testing and Bugfixing.

cryengie still has a lot of potential and unused features.

Engine is only like a big box of Lego parts.
Some boxes have prebuild parts others have more colors of blocks.
But all depends on the construction

Russ said and upgrade will be as much work as switching engines and it was possible but it was resting on one thing that he never elaborated on. The benefits is we get a solid engine. Not our current state of the engine that is limiting development at this point.

MWO should have stayed what it was supposed to be. A CryEngine mod with BATTLETECH theme. The moment they stopped excepting updates from CryTECH and started programming their own code we went down a dark path.

I'd love to see an engine upgrade. I wish PGI had worked on that, this year, instead of the money-sink failures of Long Tom and Power Draw.. (and possibly the new Assault mode which sounds like it'll turn into 12v12, all AFK inside their bases because the base defenses are stupidly overpowered.)

I'm glad to see the Unreal Engine has Vulkan support. DX12 is cancer.

Dx 12 isn't cancer ;) unless you're saying that because you're afraid of Windows 10 :P

Ummm the engine is one of the biggest MWO issues... If you're not aware of that I'm not sure what to tell you.

That's a nice trailer. I watched a couple others to. They all look good. One of my Favourite games is being remade in it even.

Heres another I have not even watched yet. Going to right now. Its a 2016 video.

Looks like a heavily biased video. Posted Image

I think only a seasoned pro could answer this topics question.

DX12 is pretty awesome.. sadly, it comes with Win10. And that means that I won't be using DX12 for a long long time... unfortunately.

Does anyone remember back in closed beta when the changed TO Cryengine?
That caused all manner of problems, including the disco bug, numerous networking issues and god knows what else.
It was 6 months of no other real progress leading up to the new engine, and like 3 months of unstable gameplay after.
I think it was an earlier Unreal Engine build that they moved away from, as well.

They aren't switching game engines in the middle of the game's life cycle. Cryengine is here to stay.

Maybe but games potentially have a longer life cycle than before because with texture and engine upgrades all the models and design can be photo realistic.

MechWarrior is using 2 mb graphics right?

Fallout 4 is using 1 MB graphics for performance reasons. I mod Fallout 4 so I know the basic graphics are 1 MB. They will redo it to 2 mb in a year or something to.

4 mb graphics are basically photo realistic.

Modders port models from other games all the time for Fallout 4.

MechWarrior mechs would look photo realistic with 4 mb graphics.
