If you have a person on your friends list, you can lend them one of your mechs for a few hours. You lose the ability to use that mech and they gain that exact mech but with their own (un)locked skilltree. (though they can use modules if they have them unlocked on their end)

They get asked in alerts if they want to get lent a mech, and It appears on their end as a special trial mech. They can't alter anything on it.

Handy if you're introducing new players to faction warfare or high tier group warfare, or you just happen to be running a special strat and need someone to have a specific mech, or a myriad of other reasons.

I *guess* if you really want a mechanical benefit, may-be any xp earned on the mech while it's lent goes back to the original owner? Not really necessary though.

It certainly sounds like a reasonable idea, though I think with the skill trees it would be easier to implement such that the person receiving the loaner mech uses whatever skills they have for that mech and the xp goes to them, as they're the one training with on that mech using their previous knowledge.

Also the consumables probably would need to not transfer over, for hopefully obvious reasons.

That was my thought too, but currently with trial mechs you can't unlock skills, and I figured it'd probably need to use the same system for compatibility. Then again, I'm not a mwo dev. Maybe it wouldn't work like that.
