Okay so I have these MCs from Founders pack. I have 7/11 Mech Bays (3 were loyalty mechs). Other than that, pretty much stating from scratch.

Any recommendations on what to spend MCs on? Have around 20k.

I figure if this is anything like World of Tanks, may as well save MCs until my free / existing mechs are maxed skill wise...at least the mechs I like that is...

Any help welcome! :)

P.S. I have a soft spot for the old Marauder...but it's not available yet and it's $ only.

Wait until the new years or black Friday mechbay sale and spend it all there. The heros come and go according to meta changes, so save all you have. If a particular hero strikes your fancy (and you mastered three other variants like it) then go for that I guess. Even colors go on sale, as well as patterns. And only buy one shot patterns. Maybe a particularly great decal? Either way, 20k MC in mechbays on sale (150 per bay) is 133 bays. That is amazing and never a waste. Wish I had that much.

Cheers!

DO NOT BUY C-BILL PACKS. If you need c-bills, you're better off buying/activating Premium Time, or getting a Hero 'mech. If you decide that you simply must buy some C-bills, buy the Cicada Champion 'mech (or the biggest Champion that's on sale,) and sell the whole thing back to the store.

I've bought some of the cheaper decals, because it's fun to play with for me. You'll make your own decisions, but it sounds like you want to concentrate on practicality. That being the case, don't bother buying 'mechs for MC, unless you're really impatient for that next chassis, or want to hurry your experience gain by buying a Champion - what's worth the while to you is highly subjective in this regard. Just be aware that the Champion's experience bonus doesn't really help you much long-term.

As for the rest of it, for the first couple-three years I played this game, I only spent the MC I bought on Premium Time (which you may still have banked,) and 'mech bays. Premium time is the best short-term way to increase your experience and C-bills, and you should strongly consider buying a Hero 'mech if you find a chassis you enjoy. When you get right down to it, a 30% bonus every time you play a Hero is more cost-effective in the long run than any amount of Premium time or MC to cbill conversion.

I would honestly say play with what you have (and don't spend anything) until you are able to answer this question yourself.

Doing it any other way is going to result in regret and wasted currency (and spending more than you feel comfortable with)

As what 762 NATO said I would wait till they have a sale on mechbays for 150 MC per bay. They have them every so often and you can save enough from the events this game gives you in MC to purchase alot. As for getting c-bills just play the game and soon after some matches you will have enough to purchase anything you want in due time.

All the mechs that come in the packs after about I think 3 months time get to be purchasable with c-bills so save your MC for bays or anything you would like that comes along if you can afford it.

Thanks for the advice folks. Current have the 4 Founders (Jenner JR7-D Hunchback HBK-4G Catapult CPLT-C1 Atlas AS7-D) the extra Atlas, King Crab and Centurion from loyalty. That plus 20M from just getting through cadet is plenty to play with for now. And yeah I have 2k premium time. Afraid to click 'Activate' because I'm afraid once the clock starts you cannot stop it. Would rather just use free premiums that just pop from injections or events. Just got 2 days of auto-premium so been trying to get as many 2x bonus while they last.

Mech-wise. I do prefer lights to mediums. Prefer speed, jump jets and what I guess is now called front loaded damage. (FLD?)

About the only heavies or assault I like (and from nostalgia) are the Marauder (the one not available yet) and the Awesome. Because PPCs are cool. Well hot...whatever :)

But I can pick up a couple PPCs from the store for regular cbills may do that and slap em on the Hunchback.

You can activate premium 30 days at a time from your forum profile. Activating from inside the game will result in a complete activation.

2000 premium time? as in days? or hours? i mean, days.... that is years of premium time. WHy wouldn't you activate it? Hours, that is still almost 3 months. I mean, the longer you sit on it, the less it benefits you... you are actually wasting it by not activating it, in a sense.

His 2k would be 2K hours. 30 days = 720 hours. So 2x30 days + 23days and 7ish hours, as long as it is activated from the MWO website's PROFILE PAGE.

Personal opinion?
Only things worth spending MC on are:
Mechbays.
Hero 'Mechs.
Patterns.
Paints.
...Decals?

Yep. That's all I would ever spend MC on. I mean c'mon, that's...

Notice that Premium Time is not on that list. Don't get me wrong, premium time is very useful. But I have never bought it.
I have once accidentally activated 480+ days of premium time when I only meant to activate 30 days (....activating from the website is WEIRD! Why not in game?)
(Uploaded November 9th, 2014.)

I'm also floating on another 300+ days of premium time. However I have never bought any premium time. Ever.
Edit: Taken today.

Just hit the occasional mechpack pre-release with 20 bucks within the first month, and rack in the premium times. It takes some months to pay off, but hey... 4 years. o.O; Of course they didn't throw mechpacks around as frequently back then. Bit harder to do it every time, but if you ever needed a life time of premium time that's the easiest route to go.

The mech concealed in the background, if interested.

To start with.., I'd say play some matches in those trials, at least 10 times each Posted Image a bad match can be a bad match making you think a mech is not for you.. but a good match happens and it clicks, and the mech you hated finally becomes your favorite.

There are lots of great trials right now.. lights, the ARC with ERSM, and considered a great mech, and the mist linx to try your hand at a small pulse with ECM, the commando (not the best commando build, kinda slow but it does have an STD engine, so it will be a bit tanky, and locust which is tiny and fast.

mediums have the strom crow, with 5 MPLs, Shadow cat a pair of large pulse with ECM its fast and mobile. Along with the IS tebuchet with LRM's and the vindicator with PPCs

heavies have the Timber C laser boat.. (great fun!) and ebon Jag, with lasers and a Gauss. Along with the IS dual gauss Sniper Jager, and a multi-system orion, AC20+srms and lasers, (a brawler)

the assaults are less divers, as both Clan mechs are gauss + lasers, and both IS are Energy boats.. But play um both to see how you like how they handle.. (so in this case i'd say just drop 5 times in each Posted Image)

Just playing these mechs you should have a way better idea on how they play.. and what you like.. But seeing the trails will most likely change on tuesday, that doesnt give you much time.. so might i suggest at least trying the the 4 mediums to try the different weapon systems, the 3 of the heavies, ebon, timber, orion as they all have unique playstyles.. the assaults and lights while are different all have pretty much the same weapons covered in the med/heavy but they are a bit harder to play and less forgiving.

Your time is limited with this set of mechs.. But if you do have lots of hours, go for it.. Patch is tuesday though... so get cracking!

again, don't buy anything yet.. I wouldn't even tweak your mechs till you play some trails and get a good 100 matches Plus under your belt.. then come back and ask more questions.. Besides with this event, you can make some decent money, and earn some bonus MC just for trying all the classes.. Such a deal!

As a further note: I couldn't hang on to cbills to save my life until tier 2. I was always chasing the next best thing and the meta (or non-meta, cuz I hate imposed rules). After stopping once in a while to fully master all 3 mechs in a set, I had enough to buy and outfit the next 3. Then sell the ones I didn't like (not the best idea, but only regretted one and rebought it). Still felt raw after some chassis. And rescales/nerfs led to more chaffing. I have mastered 60(+?) Mechs and own 45 (I think). I am sitting on 40MM cbills and a mess of mechs I may or may not master. I had near 80 MM but the medium sale...

Some say never sell a mech, you never know what the next meta is. I agree but, sometimes a chassis just doesn't jive with you. I council the same thing that was taught to me with guns. "If you just can't seem to make it shoot, no matter how much time or reloading you do, sell it."

Cheers!

If you like the atlas and really want to spend MC, then the Atlas DDC is a great mech and it would give you 3 mechs to grind out. Otherwise, save MC to buy the things you can't buy with cbills.

Order of value in my opinion. Buy everything on sale when you can.

Mechbays (you can run out of them fast)
Colors (unlocks for every mech)
Hero mechs (if you like the chassis and do research on it)
One shot camos for mechs you are going to play alot, if you are into the camo thing.

My own personal motto is don't buy anything unless it is on sale, and it usually will go on sale if you wait long enough.

These "what do I spend my money on" questions typically come down to your budget and how much patience you have.
There is no wrong answer, but if you are looking to get the most bang for your buck, then simply waiting for a sale or a weekend event, is the best way to go.

PGI runs Premium time and Mech Bays at 50% off, on New Years Eve day. That is the best time to pay money for these.

Over the course of the year, PGI will present opportunities to grind for almost everything in the game: mechs, mech bays, some MC, consumables, you name it. So just wait for it. If you don't want to wait, and you've got the money, then go buy it. Your choice.

In the OP's case, if you've already got a stockpile of MC burning a hole in your pocket, I'd buy a few mech bays and Premium time to hold you over until New Year's Eve. Once you choose a particular mech chassis to master, buy the hero mech for that chassis to help grind more cbills.

mech bays > hero mechs when on sale if you don't care about cosmetic stuff like pattern, decal, paint, cockpit items.

Everything else you can just buy with c-bills which you would get abundent eventually.

He said he has 20,000 MC, Knightsljx are you really suggesting he buy 133 bays when they next go on sale?

Definitely agree with the above advice.

Mastery bundles aren't a bad deal at all if you want all the variants inside. They include a decent discount, and include stuff like mechbays/premium time which helps add some value.

Generally though, I'd spend my MC on mech bays as needed, the occasional hero mech when it's on sale (never full price), and a minimum of camo/colors/decals. Weekend challenge events used to unlock colors regularly, not sure if they'll keep doing that but it's how I got most of my colors unlocked. Well, that and mech bundles purchased via the store (https://mwomercs.com/store) used to come with color/camo unlocks so you can get them that way.

Just about everything goes on sale eventually so it's not a bad idea to wait for the big ticket items. The odd 300MC mech bay isn't the end of the world, but paying a few extra thousand MC for a hero mech sucks.

Mech XP - General XP conversion is not recommended generally, C-bill packs are poor value, permanent camo unlocks aren't a great deal unless they're on sale and you switch your camos constantly. Supply Cache keys are basically playing the lotto, except if you win you still don't get anything great. I wouldn't spend MC on keys, just wait until you get them from events and challenges.
