How about just stop balancing the game for now and put all those resources into other projects?

I hope this is what they plan to do after Energy Draw and the mech rescale. Just give balance the finger for a while and shift all resources to content production.

Here's the game as it is now:

Thankfully the longer people play ED, the worst the opinion of the community is. Not sure whose feedback inspired this week's PTS changes, but almost none of that came out of any discussion I saw on the forums. If this system tanks any harder, we can expect the team back on useful projects soon.

Still... not sure the folks who might work balance and who might build content are the same people, depending on what you mean by content.

They're turning Energy Draw into some abomination more complex than Ghost Heat.

http://mwomercs.com/...ts-23-aug-2016/

..when, really, a few XML edits (like increasing cooldowns) would raise TTK.

..but, it looks like Russ is pulling a Long Tom on us, again. He invested money making ED and he's going to shove it into the game, no matter what..

I'd really like PGI to just stop screwing up the game with their changes and focus on new mechs / new maps / new tech.. actually let the developers develop new content.. instead of constantly rebalancing, requirking and fixing things that aren't broken.

Well, if it boils down to it, money and time. If you have people that are in charge of balance that can't program other stuff, fire them and hire people to work on actually expanding the game beyond the "balance and mechpacks only" cycle we seem to be stuck in.

Resource management problems, I suppose. When you spend months looking for engineering workarounds so you can produce THAT energy draw system... *facepalm*

Except... it wasn't ever "not broken" The system's been broken since inception.

We need that time spent to balance this crap out, and actually get things baselined, before we can actually say "it's not broken."

I'll agree, Powerdraw is manhours into a system that, may or may not work, but hell, I'd rather have it than the current ghostheat system... but personally if it was up to me, I'd scrap clan tech, reset the game to 3025 era, and balance from that baseline till we got things right, THEN move forward.

People aren't used to an iterative process, but that's why so many projects and ideas just fail to amount to anything.

Balance isn't an iterative process with MWO, it is an annual thing. If you want iterative, look at Overwatch who do a balance pass every couple of months or so. They also unnerf things when they hammer them, unfortunately for us, PGI doesn't, yes I'm talking about all the former poptarts that have faded into obscurity.

I literally can't wait for the day when everyone can only mount 1 IS ML or Clan ERSL, and both are the same range and cycle time, etc. And no matter what that cycle time is, we'll have some incredibly complex meter system that will look at the time of day in your local time zone, the average annual rainfall of your home town, the current phase of the moon, what your SAT scores were, and will determine a cooldown that's appropriate for you and the mech you're playing. Interestingly, it will still be the exact same cooldown modifier as your enemy.

And no matter what you do, halfway through your beam you'll get hit with a heat penalty... you know, to keep you on your toes.

And so we can finally have the ultimate mech sim, where two players stand 270m apart behind cover and refuse to come out to shoot because they're too busy tapping away on their calculators trying to figure out what the end heat will be.

You wanted increased TTK? Mission accomplished. PGI drops mic.

What are you talking about? Everything in the update looks like it is pulled directly from the forum. Laser vs PPFLD, viability of brawling (with AC20/SRM in particular), PPCs, Gauss...these are all things that people have discussed. Players may not like the changes or the direction of the test, but they can't claim that PGI isn't listening to what people are saying.
