we've all seen it, when you get to the map selection screen and you automatically know what map will be taken at least 90% of the time. so thus in honor of the mech tiers and player tiers I present- the map selection tiers!

tier 1(ok we're playing this map) - mining collective, frozen city

tier 2 (hmm no tier 1 map, time for plan B )- canyon, HPG, polar highlands
tier 3 (might be nice to play this one for a change)- tourmaline, Grim Portico, crimson straits

tier 4 (haha I shall boost my multiplier by picking this map- dammit it won)- alpine, terra therma, caldera, Viridian Bog, river city

tier 5 (this map exists?)- forest colony

no real point to this, just a random observation based off my own matches and map frequencies. anyone else tend to get something similar?

Forest colony is one of my favorite maps. No lie.

It's probably because of a single game where both teams were fractured into small groups of 3-4 mechs each, so it was a hit and run skirmish battles in the foggy forests instead of the typical stand at arch and shoot lazorz until one team rolls thru.

That one glorious game has made Forest Colony a wonderful map to me. I choose it whenever I can, but with the smugness of knowing I'm pissing off a LOT of people each time it wins. <3

Edit: I can't believe you put Terra Therma over Forest Colony. Seriously?

Canyon is tier 1.
Grim is also tier 1 or maybe recently dropped to tier 2. For a while it was tier 0.
Frozen has probably dropped to tier 2 by now.
Bog is T3 or better.

this has nothing to do with which maps I like or not- it's all about how often each map tends to turn up when I play. and yes I've seen terra therma way more than forest colony. all the "tier 4" maps seem to be the ones people choose to protect their multipliers because those maps aren't generally liked, only to find other people doing the same thing and presto- you're stuck with that map.

for some reason forest colony seems to be popular enough that it's not used as a multiplier builder so it almost never turns up because it's not picked enough to get chosen on it's own but it's not disliked enough to accidently pop up from people hiding their multipliers there.

edit- I did think about tossing canyon in tier 1 but decided against it since it doesn't turn up as an option often enough for me unlike the other two. Grim is in a similar situation for tier 2..
