Hahah, I looked up how to say gyrfalcon, since I am pretty sure hat is where the "Gyr" comes from on Night Gyr. One site says jeer and one says jer. So, I don't know. I guess we can narrow it down to a soft "G" though.

though i believe the anglicized bastardization is where we get names like "nightjar" from.

That is probably the right way to say it,, but due to the pruning of neurons in my brain, I can't say it like that without it sounding like jeer ;)
