I think people get confused there is a difference between decals and Halloween masks

I was thinking of doing the eyes like that on my hunchback IIC, but I didn't even think about the lips. This is great!

While the maddog looks hilarious, stuff like this also makes an absolute mockery of this game and BT, just another reason to stop taking MWO seriously and give my attention to something else.

God forbid I spend money on something that makes me happy.

Riiight, because a BT pilot with a sense of humor would never paint something hilarious on their 'mech.

if BT is a simulation of a distant future, then you have to carve out room for the jackasses of the bunch. There's always a cut-up in every group. Just look at any military unit. There's myriad examples of competent soldiers that, given the chance, will be the first ones to go for the joke.

Googly eyes and kissy lips are just as BT as pin-ups and shark teeth.

That was awesome!

I saw a King Crab the other day with bright red lips on it's rear hips area.

I see both points of view, merc's would paint what the hell they liked, unless it was a big unit with traditions, like the Eridani Light Horse.

Regular forces have to get approval, within a certain guide line

There is in Battletech canon a Banshee pilot in the 21st Eridani Lighthorse that has a giant smile painted on his mech, as well as a giant jester's cap with bells on its head.

So, yeah, just in case you failed to notice, MWO can't make an absolute mockery of BT, because BT beat them to the job years upon years ago.

I never knew about the jester's cap. That's amazing.

But yes, goofy decals are psychological warfare. If you're raging about them in game (or on the forum)--then they're working.

I just wish the decals looked more 'realistic'.

I'm not sure what the technical reason is, but I'd guess it's something like they're not inheriting ambient light levels/coloration in the way that the rest of the Mech's camo is.

Whatever it is, they sometimes look like VR Super Mario sprites superimposed on an otherwise reasonably realistic world.

yup i'm aware of BT's quirkiness, kinda wanted to avoid it in MWO.

But... wouldn't that be less BT? Sounds like you only want the parts of BT you like. Posted Image

I thought it was rather funny, if i had saw that in the game myself, id be laughing up a storm and quite possibly losing my concentration lol. OTOH, i would not decor my mechs like that... nonetheless, it was funny Posted Image

Have you ever served in a military? Because it seems to me that what you want is a grim, dour militaristic atmosphere. And I can tell you for a fact that while that atmosphere does, indeed, exist in the military, there are plenty of inappropriate hijinks that leadership will turn a blind eye to for the sake of morale.

The moral of the story is you keep those "quirkiness" where they are. For example the Heavy Metal have horn for his kill and thats fine, leave them on the HM. The banshee could have a hero with a hat and a smile, leave hat and decals for that banshee. Be selective.

Ive been abusing decals because its the best fun i can have in MWO now days and i stop taking the game seriously years ago. I do wish it wasnt so.
