is steampunk.

Some of you might like steampunk. I seriously doubt this, as I don't know too many fans of mecha and steampunk.... But for those of you confused, I will explain.

Remember those goth kids in high school? Sure. Everyone remembers the goth kids.

So... do you remember the OTHER goth kids? The pretty ones. The ones who bought all their clothes and accessories at Hot Topic. The ones who went overboard on the cute little skull jewelry. The ones that didn't look particularly unhappy. The ones that wore fishnet stockings without holes in them. The ones that wore Marylin Manson T-shirts one day, and Invader Zim shirts the next.

That's what steampunk is to SciFi. A prettier, less intelligent imitation.

Go watch Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. That movie is the epitome of steampunk.

Watch Big O, then compare it to Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Watch Samurai 7. Then wonder why anyone thought it would be a good idea to make a show about samurai fighting off a gundam attack with swords.
Watch Cassern, and wonder why a nuclear bomb needs a giant mechanical clock as its fuse.

Steampunk is ******* evil.

PS. the people who like steampunk are the same people who watch and enjoy Dr. Who episodes produced from the mid-90's onward. I really don't know how those two are related, other than an alien time machine being hidden inside a retro English police phone booth.

Um *raises hand* I like steampunk, A because the clothing style and fantasy setting in some steampunk is freaking amazing and can be a breath of fresh air. B, you kinda generalized all steapunk to those two movies, want a game that was steampunk setting, Ressonance of Fate, yes the gameplay was..odd..but it was still fun (YES I HAVE 6 SCOPES ON MY GUN SO WHAT?!). Also some people just like allot of fantasy setting, like me, ever heard of Deisel Punk? That is another one I love for the style of it all. So please, do not generalize all people who like something into one group

Edit: Also what was wrong with Big O? Though that was kinda a cross between Diesal and Steam. But it was meant for both its action scenes and a detective like atmosphere to the show with all the investigations. Saying it is just strictly one thing is like saying Cowboy Bebop was a flight sim...

I love Steampunk, and no Sky Captain is about as far from real Steampunk as Blink 182 is from Punk. Almost everyone I know into it is totally DIY, and loathe the people who buy premade stuff.

Personally, I think maybe you should broaden your horizons some. (Just read a real good Steampunk/ Fantasy type novel earlierr this year and will be reading it's sequals when they arrive)

I tend to give allot of things a shot, I'm not for Sky Captain, I kinda just didn't like the movie so don't think I'm a fan of it XD But yeah I like steam and other things for allot of reasons.

Not really into steampunk, but this game http://en.wikipedia...._Magick_Obscura was great!

Sky Captain just sucked, don't think Steampunk played a role in that.

Opening post is an over-generalization of what is actually a pretty cool thing.

Also opening poster, do you find yourself saying things like "I liked X before it was cool" Because I'm getting some pings on my Hipster radar.

Oh, and those smokin hot topic goths? You still wanted to screw them. Well, i did anyhow. Maybe you preferred the fat butch ones, cuz they're genuine?

Do you get angry often? Are you an angry person in general that is?

Anyways, steampunk is cool. It is a huge genre with multiple subgenre's that two movies couldn't hope to cover in entirety. And since when does fun have to be smart? I would also like to mention that steampunk really predates most other sci fi genre's, from when people really thought steam was the way of the future, and when people like Tesla actually thought we would would use lightning guns in the near future.

And on another note, Steampunk isn't really sci fi so much as fantasy, or alternate history, but let us not quibble over terms.

You didn't list a single thing I did NOT enjoy in your opening message. Especially Dr Who, which rates JUST below Battletech for me. Literally, next thing in line.

I thought this would be some rail against some piece of battletech lore. I guess multi ton walking death machines that could be taken out with land mines or a freaking tripwire are totally acceptable though.

I like Steampunk. I'm not a fan of Doctor Who. And I'd like to see how Howl's Moving Castle could be seen as an imitation of science fiction.

Howl's Moving Castle to me is an example of Steampunk that doesn't pretend to be science fiction, and which works on it own.

Also, "less intelligent imitation"? There's a lot of science fiction out there that is *incredibly dumb*.

I just don't get all the hate, it's not a abomination like twilight, it doesn't go against political values, it didn't take the last orange soda in the fridge, and it has a wide variety of different types of games, movies, books, and even a d20 lore.
