We all know ECM has little downside, outside of you get a low sensor warning when it gets close, But then again seismic shows you a red dot exactly where that warning is coming from, so not really all that much of a downside.

My thoughts,, When you get countered, you loose your ability to target and get the paper doll. No i am not talking about loosing the ability to target and fire.. i am saying Lock a target to get the paper doll, AND you can't use someone else's lock on it to get said doll.

You would still be able to lock a target to fire weapons, like LRM's or missiles, so not loosing that ability completely, But you will no longer be able to hold a lock for someone else, and your paper doll would go on the fritz.

Basically outside of jamming someones ECM, it frazzles their sensors. So no info can be sent to another mech, nor can use receive it..

I am all about making ECM jam any frequency enemy pilots might send within its radius, such as target sharing, or even VOIP (cause it's ******* immersive). In addition to its ability to delay locks.

However, remove ECM's ability to cockblock LRMs, so we can finally rework that weapon group into something that is less feast-or-famine. This 1.5 ton Jesus Box BS has to end.

Once that's done we can even increase ECM's radius.

Well always thought that ECM shouldn't be a perma unlock anyway.. It should be a lock delay IMO

and i didn't even think about an enemy ECM Jamming the other guy, I was just thinking about when ECM runs into an ECM counter..

But that kinda sounds neat too.. you get to pick to Jam peoples sensors.. OR if you wanna remain under ECM yourself.. kinda interesting :)

Get a TAG laser.

a few problems with that:

1) If you are a fire support LRM mech or playing as an indirect fire LRM mech, TAG isn't practical, that's the Ravens job or those brawlers out there that would like to not die so quickly. TAG's do not work behind cover.
2) TAG doesn't work if you are within ECM disruption range. Hence why TAG + SSRM's are not really the best combo for anti ECM... unless you want a BAP... but then that's 2.5 tonnes of equipment for a job that is 0 tonnes for every other weapon in game.
3) TAG doesn't work quite well in the meta of MW: O, not only do you need to always face your enemy to hold a lock but now you need to face even longer to just get the lock to begin with (which with TAG takes what... 10 seconds?)....

I know this thread is mostly about ECM and LRM's.
But seriously. Seriously guys. I have lots of issues with TAG right now.
It's main advantage was the fact it made YOU more accurate- as an direct fire weapons... perhaps one day firing at a target you are tagging and locked on will decrease your beam duration and ballistic velocity a little bit...
the Timberwolf "Bounty Hunter" had a (light) TAG laser particularly for this- why else did you think this practical lonewolf has a TAG?... that could've been another laser for his rather meta-ish looking timberwolf....

i really like to see an MWLL style electronic warfare implementation. thats where living legends really shined. everyone running passive. gecm bots with c3i relaying targeting data. lerm bots would have to go active to fire. stealth was far easier to pull off and scouting mattered.

or even VOIP

great idea. too bad people would just circumvent it by using team speak. rest assured people who actually use voip have the ts client installed and bookmarks to every ts server in the inner sphere. id really love to see these kind of mechanics in games, but too easy to bypass.

True, true. But as a Pug Knight, I mostly care about the Solo-Q experience, where usage of teamspeak is next to non-existent. ;)

I would love ECM-play to be more active.
maybe adding a cone of extended ECM range in front of the Mech (torso), so ECM mechs could use the ECM more as a weapon and less of a means of self-defence. Just an idea though...

ECM should be noisy, not silent. It should create false radar echoes or throw out so much noise that you can't effectively single out targets with radar. The trade-off for this protection should not be stealth, it should show on radar as an area of fog on enemy radar. This is mimics real world ECM.

Stealth should be handled by some other mechanic, such as passive/active radar, or armor that absorbs instead of reflects radar(reducing the range it can be detected at with active radar). As it is now, ECM is absurd. You can't flip a switch to add "quiet" to a mech, but could do things to have it make less noise, and certainly can't make an 100 ton assault invisible to radar because he stands close enough to another mech that does have a low radar signature. This is why a noisy ECM system would work better, you couldn't tell what all is under the ECM umbrella, but you could definitely see on radar the area it is covering.
