The way they will always jump in to defend PGI's behavior - even on those matters where a reasonable person would reasonably conclude that PGI is genuinely in the wrong - is quite amazing.
Their numbers are dwindling, of course. But then, so too are the numbers of people at the other end of the spectrum, who are relentlessly and sometimes unreasonably critical.
Overall it feels like there are fewer and fewer people in the forums overall.
I can't blame the new white knights, I was like that once.
The game has so much potential when you first get in...but 4 years in, and having an arguably inferior product...that changes attitudes.
He'll fade, in time. It took me over a year, and he's new.

I am guessing everyone can evaluate and decide for themselves whether or not the game is worth sticking to.
If you believe the game is garbage, and the dev's are never gonna fix it. Just leave the game alone. Go hang around some other forums, or the new battle tech game.

Because they shut down the other Shooty Stompy Robot game
Base gameplay is still enjoyable, and they haven't ruined that.
Yet
so this is the only mechwarrior game, and the game is still fun. It's CW that is garbage.
That doesnt answer, if you know it's failing why stick around? according to bishop their is an iceberg in the way, and I think you believe that PGI is gonna hit it.
So why stay on the ship? To get as much enjoyment of the base game play as you can?

This is one of the best community of players in any game that i've played in as well. Most are adults and we do get the baby sometimes but 95% of the time are just really cool people that hang out with you..

No, you don't get it.
Shooty Stompy Robots is amusing. Teamwork can be good
HoverJets™, BAD
Ghost Heat, Bandaid
Energy Draw, bandaid
MGs, Bad
Flamers, 4 YEARS of worthlessness. Let that sink in...it took 4 YEARS to change ONE MEANINGFUL Weapons.XML variable.
That's my complaint, Super Simple Things™, they are not done. Ever
I stay, because Shooty Stompy Robots, not PGI
If Sean Tracy goes and makes a BattleTech game (a real one, not just with a sticker), I'll go there. I have no hope left for PGI, they've squandered a wonderful opportunity. And don't say it's a single thing, it's a consistent thing, over the 4 years I've been here.
You're new, you haven't been disappointed yet. You'll find out how it works, in time.

Yea Wolf, when you have watched this game grind into the ground because of 4 years (almost 5 now wow) of bad decisions and incompetence, you might be a little more jaded, also if you were maybe like me (or bishop) you might have had an extreme interest in seeing this game succeed because of whatever reason and dropped a **** ton of money on the game in the hopes that the devs would you know, USE IT to improve their game, when in reality, they have done the minimal (almost NONE) viable effort into the product. When you've played long enough you start to notice the regulars, when you play even longer you start to notice the regulars that disappear, this year has been a huge drain for a lot of players that spent huge amounts of time AND money on this game, people are getting fed up with PGIs ********.
I stay because i spent over a grand on this game and i havent yet felt like i got my moneys worth. 10,000 matches and kills later and im still playing because i like Mechwarrior and to a lesser extent battletech. I like First Person Shooters in vehicles, and this is the only one with alright base mechanics that arent WW2-cold war tanks and planes.

I agree....except the ones in game aren't the same ones who post some of the salty stuff. Several 'legacy' players don't play anymore but have 15,000 or more posts. Many of them are very angry at the game and developers.
Having said that...I've met some awesome people in game.

To bad this game wasn't like that though,, run your own server, add mods.. ect.. I think most people here would give their left *&^# for all that for 40 bucks. Game looks darn good too, if i had the time i might have to give it a shot on a private server..
But they made this community seam so tame in our outrage.. Are we slipping?

A lot of people like to complain about the forums being cranky and full of hate etc., but compared to most games out there these forums have always been pretty tame if not out right friendly. The fact the devs avoid them so heavily because of the vitriol is pretty sad and unjustified when you get right down to it.

I gave up on Steam....too many crashes. (on busy nights I'd get 20 in 3 or 4 hours)
I D/L the MWO game client and haven't had but one crash in the last month. (and that might have just been an internet burp)

I also, like you, am one of the few who DONT run everything they play through STEAM.
Steam isnt so great IMO, not to mention my previous account was "LOST" when my phone died and i got a new number which wasn't linked to my Steam account, thus i lost about $150 worth of content and games. I tried for months to get a hold of someone at STEAM to help but alas they did not even reply to me. I sent emails to many, many, many people and tried many routes to no avail.
They basically took my $150 dollars (a few of the games I barely played yet) and because there is no real bosses or anything at Steam there is no one to be held accountable and the money is gone unless i wanna take someone to small claims court for $150 dollars.

MWO forums also were way more friendly back in Cloesd Beta days before it became obvious that PGI 1)has no idea what they are doing an 2) doesn't give a **** about their customers' opinion.
It's a fallacy to say the BT fans are such a bitter community. They are loyal and constructive if you treat them right. PGI didn't, and they got what they deserved. Every bit of negative publicity MWO resulted from their abysmal handling of their own game and their customers, not from a "toxic community".
Exactly! This to the 20th power.
It was so... so rare in the Mektek forums that the Mektek devs got huge amounts of ire pointed at them from us... Microprose responded quickly when the community gave constructive feedback regarding the basic armor values in Mechwarrior 3. The other few gaming network Mechwarrior/Battletech games had great communtiy's that helped shape the game.
I'd personally argue, that every bit of "hostility" that the MWO community has hurled PGI's way, was thoroughly cultivated by PGI themselves.

Compared to the forums of other F2P games (like World of Tanks) or 4chan/V/VG this forum is a hippie community. Same ingame, compared to the amount of hate you get in games like WoT or LoL the chat is really super civil. When was the last time in MWO someone called you a cheating ******** just because you played better (which happens daily in LoL and literallly every other match in WoT)?
I have to agree. While I don't like the forums so much, everything is so nice in game.
I had a dude get angry because we didn't position with him, because everyone was moving behind the main enemy force. We stomped the enemy, and he apologized and gave GG. Tears of comradery :'3

Isn't your account linked to an e-mail? I never bothered to link to one of those fancy phones because i don't own one. But you should be able to reinstall steam, then have it send an e-mail with a code to you, then enter the code, and it should work..
I just did this back in july.. But, could you contact the phone company and just replace the number to the old? Or have it forwarded or something? I never had to much of an issue with steam, it just takes them a while to get back to you.
