Probably already pointed out. But damn.

Seriously though, posting this thread in the patch feedback section of the forums would have been more helpful.

But it's not kodiaks. You either seeing gimpy hit registration or your not hitting the CT. Note that what people see spectating you is not what you see (HSR only applies to the shooter, not spectator). I'd need to see video from you to say for sure what happened.
But remember as well that a KDK has a tremendous amount of CT structure, too. Even from red, a 100t mech can take a couple 10pt hits to it's CT. That is, 8 consecutive PPC shots to an unarmored CT to kill it; 78 CT health.

Especially when group fired (there used to be an oft cited video floating around showing 2 ppcs passing through the CT of a mech and then followed by chain fire where the individual shots hit. Thought this had been fixed though).

This.
When spectating, the position of the mech you're targeting is your ping+their ping old. If you and your target are 80ms ping each, that means your targets position is 160ms old for you. HSR makes this ok, because the game compensates to tell if you're making a shot that looks right for you.
However, when people spectate, they don't see what you see. They see a server side recreation of the events that's unaware of lag and HSR. So, you'll see people firing in front of enemy mechs (even with lasers) and hitting them, and you'll see perfect CT shots that miss completely.
There's a lot, actually, that leads to problems spectating as a result. For example, people see cursor movements in spectating that the player isn't making, and mechs that tend to warp a bit. Leads to accusations of cheating, when it's just an artifact of how spectating works.
It's very important to understand that what someone sees when spectating is NOT what the player being spectated sees. It's not a video feed.

Yes. Single PPC's are reliable, but the more you group together the less reliable they are.
It may have been fixed, to be fair. I haven't used PPC's much in a long time, and while I've tested them on the PTS without problems, that (and them saying it's been fixed) doesn't mean it actually had been fixed. I still assume massed PPC alphas are a roll of the dice
I know - and this was a long time ago - when I played around with the Direstar (nobody who owns a Direwolf hasn't tried it at least once) I had a few times where 9 ERPPC alphas would do like ~20 damage. Clearly I hit, and yet only 2 of 9 registered damage.

Also, I'm a dire pilot, and I haven't tried a dire-star yet.

So you're a liar, or horribly boring =)
I mean, really, it's not a good way to play overall, but how is this anything other than hilarious:

And how!
I still remember during my trial of position with CGBI (back when I ran Clan) I was dueling a senior pilot in Adder Primes... I had him dead to rights. Cherry Red CT, no rear armour with his rear less than 100m from my nose, I loosed twin cERPPC's into him, and they passed right through his mech to hit the snow drift on Alpine by the lake... I lost the match because I over heated from that shot, if they had connected it would've been a win for me, despite the over heat.
Still didn't hurt my love for PPC's in the end, only made me love them more, oddly enough.
