1. Radar Dep Module
2. ECM
3. AMS
4. Use Cover

Seriously people, this has been a cyclical 'complaint' and more often than not its because the weapon actually becomes effective and useful again (sometimes its just a situation that more people start using it again as it was still in a usable state) and you all just can't seem to understand basic combat tactics (ESPECIALLY NUMBER 4) and then just complain that the weapon is broken/OP because you're not doing anything to actively defend/fight against it.

However this is kind of a joke as LRMs are simply 'okay' as they are with LRM20s being weak compared to the other 3 launchers and 5s in chain having been insanely effective and efficient to boat. You want LRMs to play well finally?

Make 'indirect and unassisted' LRMs use greater than LRM20 spread (this goes for ClanLRMS too, they need at least some for this system but possible a degree less to still compensate for their 'stream' mechanic), while 'assisted' (narc/TAG) will use LRM20 or less spread to mitigate damage for their non-LOS usage.

Then make LOS LRMs use LRM15 or slightly less than while LOS LRMs with artemis will receive the LRM10 or slightly higher/lower spread.

All spreads would be subject to balance but one of the core reasons LRM5s are so useful and LRM20s seem to waste to much ammo, while indirect LRM spam can absolutely piecemeal a team is part of this problem.

Why this matters:
-Spread: Will make larger launchers more powerful in comparison to just the 'blankets' they are not, and will help to keep LRM5s chained to be ridicuously more effective due to their far more concentrated damage.
-Cooldown: I think they're in a good place now if the above becomes used but might need adjustment if it proves to help the balance.
-Damage: Lastly, this could be a balance factor raising to 1.1 or even lowering to 0.9 damage per missile, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that and only need to be a last ditch final balancing act if the sweet spot with spread and cooldown couldn't quite reach the right feel for the weapons.

If people think LRM are bad with warnings when getting targetted, they should try playing WoT where artillery just oneshots you, with no warning on incoming.

LRMs are fine, can be annoying yes but then don't stand on an open field.

And push a LRMboat. Because they can't effectively fight you inside 180 meters. Even Clanners have trouble if you get into knife fighting range on 'em.

As a LRMisher, I always carry no more than 30 tubes so I can pack a sensible secondary armament. Because lights are real and they are a threat. I'm trying to learn the light game and I'm doing unto others as has so often been done unto me. And it WORKS.

5. Keep calm and twist. LRMs do not kill you fast. As long as you torso twist, you can easily spread the damage to ensure your continued survival, while you seek cover.

Chain fired LRM5s will be a joke, if only pugs get their **** straight and equip AMS. It is 100% player's fault. My Archer 5W for example, got completely shut down--as in 0 missiles reaching any targets--thanks to a triple AMS Nova in one match. While that Nova had 10 CSPLs to shoot around.

If everyone equips 1 AMS, I doubt we will see any LRMs in this game, period.

LRM5 chainfire is only effective when there's no AMS cover. If you have any trouble with it then it's entirely your own fault. It's like complaining that you get one-shot if you don't put enough armour on in the mechlab.

I don't have any problems with LRMs with Heavies and below anymore, the slow assaults though is kind of a harder challenge.

Ignore the advice above, people:

"Cover" is just a bunch of obstacles that will only block your assault if you decide to move.

Aiming is far easier when your mech is stationary, it's better to hold still in the open, then you can get clear shots on the enemy.

Already being targeted by LRMs? Just stay cool and calm, don't try to move until you line up your crosshairs for that sweet shot! Maybe even get ready for a second shot, he'll poke out again any minute now!

Actually it could work too. If you have a high long range alpha you can trade with almost any lrmboat 1on1. Your assault will be scratched but your enemy will be cored if not dead already. Only most brave or stupid lrmers will still hold you in their lock after your alpha.

Edit: But i would keep on moving though.

well yea, but wot artilleriy only has 1/6th of a chance of hitting you with perfect aim(without hacks) + 1/3 for critical damage (only internal does not actualy decreas tank durability) ... artillery in taht game is much rng. you may hit targets outside of your targeting reticle. alot.

I've met tight deathballs packed with so many AMS's that my IS 2xLRM15 had issues to reach a target. That's 30 missiles at once. The only reason I wouldn't pack an AMS myself is if 1) it's a ECM mech or 2) I really really want a certain Omnipod configuration that doesn't give me a AMS slot. Those 1,5 tonnes need for a AMS really makes a difference.

I tried these things but it didn't seem to prevent getting a bunch of LRM-failures from playing coward-warrior online on my team, where they hide like terrified leeches hoping to farm themselves some rewards while other players actively play the game.

Could you please provide detailed instructions on anti-LRM tactics that will prevent these players from being on my team?
It would be a huge help and would see my enjoyment of quick play increase.

Thanks,
Ulti

Oh you.

But I really agree: The only LRMs I fear are those on my team. Put "LRM 80 here, hold lox plz" into Google translate and "loss incoming" is the result.

The best counter for enemy LRMs is competence (which, by the by, includes cover and raderp, but not AMS. AMS is waste tonnage if you know how to play. ECM is take or leave).

best thing to do is come on the forum and cry about LRMs works every time (pgi can turn them off like a switch)

another tactic is to send an assassin over to kill the LRM mech used to happen to me all the time

my team would watch and I could almost hear them say wow look at that

Play Group-Q or FW. Relatively less derps.

Actually AMS is there more for the team, than for myself only. Longer my pugmates survive enemy LRM fire, more damage our team will do.

But then there are 2 possibilities
- As long as it is "raining" they will hide anyway -> AMS useless nothing hits them anyway
- They are out in the open, aka suicide run -> AMS useless as you will not suicide with em

A bit exaggerated but my experience as a Lurmer who like to keep enemies in cover nearly a much as the likes baiting them to rush the whole team.

If you encounter a pack of LRM boats, then light mechs equipped with ECM\Radar Dep and airstrikes are indispensable. They can flank quickly, get in the back field, and wreak havoc amongst a group of stationary mechs.

And as an aside, these posts calling LRM boaters "cowards"? It's called fire support. We're supporting you assaults and heavies when that quad LBX10-AC Kodiak is trying to turn you into Swiss cheese (at least I am.).
