Here is my mod....
gives me 22 buttons, not as creative as yours for sure, but it makes it fun! I don't care what the haters say, building things is fun! I too have found myself making things for this game, including having to open up every flight stick I have used for MWO, and cut the shaft and secure the handle to a horizontal position.
Back in 2013, I used some of my several flight sticks the way they came out of the box. I prefer them to be horizontal which requires taking them completely apart, a hot glue gun, and a solder Iron for some of them. This Saitek X-45 I got with the throttle controller was no exception. Many of the stick I have tore into have plug in style connectors that make it easy. The X-45's wires that are routed thru the shaft of the flight stick are all soldered to the mother board. I had to de-solder them, clean up the board and solder the wires all back in place. 12 wires total to re-solder.
I have also gutted older dell keyboards, which have a chip board built in them. There is a process that you use a wire to short/jump the boards connections to find which combination presses certain keys on keyboard. Once you find which ones make W,S,A,D or any button you want to use, you solder wires to these traces on the board and solder a button to the wires. I tore apart several sets of racing steering wheels for pc, and used the foot peddles and then set the hot keys just like you would with a usb keyboard for the game. I tried using a throttle stick for my left hand, and then the peddles for turning my legs....but it turns out its a hell of a work out when playing this game for hours at a time.
However, using the foot peddles for things like narc, or tag in events that require 4 and 5 weapon groups, things like these really help out. Does this make me a try hard too?
If I build or others choose to build a Sim pit..... are we all try hards too? Or do we just need to use Macro's to be considered guys with a crutch, and no skills? For the record, I have never used Micros in any games, (with the exception of turbo fire) back in the day with Super Nintendo, sega, playstation...etc.
I have had several matches when I was mastering my Direwhales and King crabs where I have put the AC'2 hurt down on a enemy pilot, and they got salting after falling from them. It's funny how quick some are to start claiming things in chat after dying in this game.... "cheating, using micro's, only way you can win, bla bla bla..." seriously, lighten up guys, not everyone is using them. Even if they are, who really cares?
