I finally have a computer that will run MWO (don't ask).
Months and months ago I thought I could run it, but my system really wasn't up to it. I discovered this after I had started an account a tried out a game and ran around in one of the trial areas (I dunno what it was called, there weren't any enemies). Anyway, instead of frying my computer I chose to wait until I could get started again.

Now I'm back (from outer space) and I'd like to know a few things:
1. There's this trial period thing that you earn bonus awards for a number of games.
How can I tell if that's still active? Is it number of games played or is it more of a time period thing?
2. I was able to do the tutorial stuff and got the speed waypoint rewards.
Are there more tutorial (academy) trials that give rewards? I tried out a few of them and I either totally suck (which is likely) or they just don't give rewards at all.
3. The trial mechs, do they go away at some point?
I'm an old hand (Mechwarrior 2 on PC) so I have some idea of what I'm doing and what I'm up to, but I guess I want to now if I should get a lot of practice in with one or two mechs or spread my trial out across a bunch of them?

I think that's all for now. I'll probably as more later.

Thanks for the help!!

Welcome back to MWO.

1) your name will continue to be blue here is the easiest one. It lasts 25 matches and it gives you little "achievement" rewards after each match with a little blue account injection window. The total is around 8 million chills. Under home in game, look at achievements and there is the list.
2) I'm not entirely sure how the academy system gives awards. I know I got around 3 million out of it but haven't finished it all.
3) trial mechs will always be there. You can hide them by choosing "owned" in the filter. They change.... maybe once a month? Once every two months?

I would use them to get an idea of what mechs or weapons work better for you so you can use that to help you make a choice on your first mech.

You're welcome any time.

Run 50-100 matches in trials. They change about every 3-5 months. By the end of your trial time you should have enough to buy and outfit 3 mediums of the same chassis with engine swapping. Read up on the New Player forum. Lots of answers here. I did not post first, I let Kon do it. ;)

Cheers!

the first 25 games give you 12 million cbills on top of match earnings, also completing the tutorial gives you 5 million

If you haven't played many games yet, you can always start anew.

I think when you start, you will get premium for short while. I'm not 100% sure of this as none of the archivements give premium time. Maybe it's changed or maybe there is some early bonus which doesn't show. Or maybe the've changed that since I registered.

Most of the bonuses come from "cadet" bonuses which are archivements. You can see them from mechlab, leftside menu, under archivements. You can see what you've done and what you can still do.

^this is very important!

I recommend making 4 accounts (one for each weight class)!

Play each one and find out what kind of pilot you are! The reason I say this... Money comes fast in the beginning but greatly slows down after your recruit bonuses are up!

Its easy to buy your first mech, but it gets very hard to buy a 2nd and 3rd mech of the same chassis!

Accounts are free bro! Find out what kind of pilot you are and have fun doing it! (And avoid spending money until you figure out your pilot affinity!!!)

On a side note... Lower your ingame mouse sensitivity far to the left. The default setting is unplayable!!!!

(I personally run .16~.18, everyone runs different numbers but i dont know anyone who plays with the default)

Uh go through the steps for 4 accounts isn't going to help acclimatize to a new game. It complicates things for a new player to go through. Better do so if he's got the hang of it and needs something else to do. Like this one.

Well let me tell you a story... A story about how I almost quit the first time around...

When I was a new players, everyone talked about how powerful spiders and hunchbacks were... They were the goto mech for new players way way back in the day...

So after I saved up enough c-bills, I bought a hunchback... That was a mistake... i absolutelly suck in medium mechs... I just spend my hard earned c-bills and am now broke as all heck.

(Keep in mind, this was during the days where trial mechs were utter trash compaired to the champion trials we have now).

I tried and tried to get cbills but i was going no where... Fed up with the game, i almost raged quit...

Until someone kind enough told me... "Don't worry about it pal, just make a new account, its free right?"

And so I did... And that was when I found my home in assault mechs! (This same person also told me to lower my mouse sensitivity a couple weeks before! Thanks bro!)
