Hi, can someone please tell me why I keep getting bumped from being the first person who joined queue 1 to queue two after 10 minutes and then after another 2-3 minutes bumped to queue three before giving up.

Beucase in FP there is no separate group queue.
People who join as group, can get shifted to play againts each others, and likewise sole players can get shifted to make room for a large group.

By shifted he want to say a scenario like this:
The lobby waits for 12 players.
You are the 3rd one who joind in (2 solo players a head of you).
Now a premade of 10 players join (as a group).
The two players in front of you will be put into a match with the group of 10 (as they are able to start a group right now).
You will be the only one left in the lobby and move up to place 1 (which guarantees you to be in the next match, as long as not a premade of 12 players joins in).
This may sound unfair, but it wouldn't be right if the group of 10 and the 2 others would have to wait till 9 other players join and allow you to start a game.
When you have formed a group of 12 and are sitting in the queue, waiting to be dropped into the game it may happen, that another full group pushes you back in the line.
This is because the queue remembers your position in line in case of a drop out of it.
E.g. Your group is at 3rd place out of 10 waiting groups. One player crashes and you are thrown out of CW. The 7 groups behind you will fill your place by moving one up. When the crashed group formed up against they will get back to their previous 3rd places in the queue, pushing the ones behind this place back again.
That is a as far as I've understand the queue mechanic. Not sure if it covers your experience.

Hi, thanks for feedback, all sound logic, only thing is I was in position 1 in queue 1 and watched it slowly fill up at what seemed to be one at a time to the point of only having 2 spaces left and then wham.... I got bumped to position 1 in a new q2 to then repeat the same thing and wham.. position 1 in q3 at which point I usually gave up. Find it hard to believe that everyone else in solo just quit at exactly the same time and a team of 12 stepped in instead. This happened several times in a row so I went back to inner space for the night totally hacked off. Thankfully It has not happened today and had at least two matches that might count towards an event prize but don't think I'll be winning a shinny new Mech anytime soon. . ...will keep a keen eye on how the space fill up in my next q if it happens again. Cheers

Are you dropping as a Freelancer, answering the Call to Arms? And were you dropping as Clan or IS?
In his example, he was using solo players (not in a group) but it is possible that you were getting bumped because the incoming were groups, you + 3group+2group then finally a 7group. In your description of only having 2 slots left, everyone in there may have been in a group except for you when a +3group dropped in.

The fact that the chat here is from 1998 does not help. It should have options to add or not all freelancers, certain factions etc.
Then it would be easier for us to make our own groups. it still can be done but it is not easy. Make friends with people you like playing with and try it and/or go to "looking for group".

Hi Tarl, yes I was dropping as a solo freelancer in answer to a call to arms and playing IS . I understand they give preference to multiples in a group over solo but would hope any late solo faction member joining a queue after me would not get any preference because I have waited for so long: once a call to arms is issued all solo should be level or there is little incentive to have a solo freelancer. Thankfully has not happened again yesterday or today so far.

Nah I don't think it gives a preference over a faction member, far as I know.
It'll be premade teams of 8-12 mans that are "jumping" you and picking up other arranged teams of 2s and 4s.
To avoid this, basically, don't drop for Jade Falcon - that is where the problem is most prolific given the population is far too heavy/out of proportion. Most other factions you should have this issue far less.
