Not that I imagine respawn will ever find its way into MWO properly, since much of its playerbase appears to suffer from stubborn old man syndrome and have respawn eternally tied to "arcade" in their heads.
Would Have Loved If Mwo Played Like Mw3

Shadowcat moves just fine.
Light Mechs and the Shadowcat move nicely in MWO, but after that everything reminds me of the same direction MW4 was headed in. We had Mechs that moved like they did in the MW3 intro, but then combat moved over the years to Honda's Asimo with weapons.

Yeah the combat in MW4 was pretty clunky.

Now with MW4's combat vs MWO, I'd take MWO all day. You say the same things I would in your second paragraph. Alphas with bad hardpoint set ups on alot of Mechs really limited that game in the beginning. I didn't stay with it for long.

Kinda like Shiv's latest video. MechWarrior 3 had a nice mission set up, though the AI was trash for 1999. I really can't remember MW4's missions, I didn't play them as much.

Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again..
Tell me: would we...? Could we...?

Yeah the one leg death in MW 3 was pretty lame. They went so far as to double the leg armor which helped but still wasn't great. In Mechwarrior 2 Mercs you could fight in the prone position once one leg was shot off! I miss that.

have to admit, even in PvE, that was my only real complaint. Obviously today the graphics, etc, don't hold up, but for 2000? Great game. Shame Pirate's Moon was kinda...MEH.
Now I gotta get them functional on my Win10 setup.... got a Sidewinder precision pro that needs some action!

Sorry to hijack, but if you figure this out please share. No matter how I try (emulators, etc.) the game starts, the APCs on the first mission take flight and bounce all over, and then the graphics become a mishmash of color and the game errors out. Tried old version of DirectX, etc. Nothing seems to help.

I just looked at Gameranger and they list MW3 and Pirates Moon (as well as the MW4 titles). No experience with that service but I might give it a try after factions and the remaining aspects of BT flavor are removed from this game.
Anyway, sorry to interrupt the discussion. Please continue the regularly scheduled thread programming of why we should make excuses and lighten up on PGI. (edit seems like all the threads are taking this tone today).

I know this frustration. I tried for over 3 years to get the game working on Windows 7 with an ATI card.
Here's some tips that I hope help. If they don't work, check out the MechWarrior 3 Community forum. There is a sub help forum there about getting MechWarrior 3 to run on current machines. People are having success lately!

Game Ranger is awesome for being free. We play MechWarrior 3 on it every Sunday morning/afternoon. It reminds me of the MSN Gaming Zone minus the big chat lobby.

Back during it's prime online, most of us carried the "honor system." You only shot the legs if they started shooting yours and if a mech fell, you let it back up. But that was mainly just for people playing Lasers Only or Stock Mechs Only. The guys who played Ballistics Only didn't believe in honor. lol
Pffft.
I played ballistics only, usually twin UAC20 loadouts. We went by the honor system.
Only thing I disliked was the amount of hackers. Aside from that, MW3 was great.
I was rather let down by MW4. It felt like a simplified game to me with cartoony graphics.

It consisted mostly of laser boating, lag shooting, and pin-point mouse accuracy. On a 1v1 fight between a Strider laser boat vs a Dire Wolf, the Strider actually had an edge, because it was so small and agile. I also recall MW3's multiplayer when it first launched (version 1.0). It consisted of pure LBX and UAC boats where you get the one shot knockdown everytime. Until they nerfed that of course.
MW4 had way better multiplayer. My only beef was during the MW4: Vengeance days, the meta was mostly jump sniping with large lasers and gauss rifles. It wasn't until sometime during MW4: Mercenaries, and the MekPaks, where we started seeing more diversified tactics. Thankfully, no lag shooting required, and the maps were large enough for stealthy tactics. Oh, and you can actually do decent with a joystick.
My personal favorite for multiplayer will always be Mechwarrior 2 though. You had to lag shoot, and everyone flew around with jump jets, but it also required a lot of individual skill as well when it comes to positioning and aiming. When you score a kill in multiplayer, you felt good about it, without ever having to feel cocky. There was a lot of league rules in Mechwarrior 2 as well where the community kept a close reign on boating and cheesy tactics. Missiles were a bit OP, but then AMS did wonders in MW2: Mercs.

Yeah we had some hackers and no one to ban accounts like gaming companies do now days.
Did you play Unlimited Ammo on Ice Maps? Those guys would shoot 2-3 UAC 20s until you respawns. For some reason the angriest players played that game set up.
I wish we could toggle game options and host public matches, instead it seems everything like that in MWO is built for LAN parties
