Have you played the WH40k Total War? If so, how is it?

I'm a big fan of the Total War games myself, but haven't had the opportunity to try it yet.

Nope. It's not my cup of tea for a TW game. But who knows, I might change my mind if MWO finally goes to the crapper.

The community should come together and make their own Mech game. The only problem is that most people here are old farts that don't care that much about the actual game, as long as they can pilot their favorite mechs of the olden times. So if it won't be BT lore based (which it can't really be, without a license), there probably won't be a lot of interest, sadly.

I'm not so sure. The old farts seem to be more interested in lore than the twitchy younglings.

Funny you should say that...

MWLL lets you pilot anything from a battle armor to an aerospace fighter, and everything in between. It's Multiplayer Only though, and there is no mechlab. Built by the community, for the community.

MW4Mercs only lets you pilot Battlearmor and Mechs(no vehicles or aerospace like MWLL), however it has a rich Single player campaign as well as Multiplayer(use Gameranger or directIP these days) and allows customized builds in the Mechlab. It has been updated with HD graphics and textures making it very pleasing to the eye. Originally Built by Microsoft, but reverse-engineered and improved by the community.

For that TT Btech fix there is also Megamek. An overhead TT btech run in a java engine on the traditional Btech Mapsets. Great fun but some of the more advanced settings can be a little daunting to newcomers. Again, this one is built by the community, for the Community.

So in answer, we did, and that is what's on offer Posted Image

When PGI decided to try for MW5/MWO they shut down support for MWLL and MW4Mercs(as they saw these as direct competition), which were in their heyday at the time. Unfortunately PGI never managed to make a better game(like they promised they were going to), and it is unsettling to know that six years later, these two "abandonware" products still offer a better online Mechwarrior experience than MWO.

Here's some MWLL competitive gameplay if you want to see what it looked like during the heyday:

I had a fair bit of fun with War Thunder for a while. Game looks good and plays slow and tactically. Armour facings count for a lot. I thought I was really good until I found that games are filled with stupid bots at lower ranks. Still, quite fun

Hi All,

1st all, let me say that even after MWO ups and downs. I still love MWO and will continue to play.

2ndly, I need to say that playing too much MWO is bad for my rage and health.

Thus, anyone knows of any other good FPS game like MWO.

I am a 35 years old dude and cannot compete with hyper twitch youngsters in time and reflexes.

Thus looking for good moderate paced games that does not rely of twitch reflexes. And is not moba (I dislike moba).

I need breaks from MWO Posted Image So looking for alternative game to play that is like MWO.

Hawken is a more FPS like mech shooter, less sim-ish and far more shooter styled. A lot of other games that are mech involved have shut down sadly on the f2p front. The shooter seems to reign supreme and mechs are rare even in retail title recently other than I believe Gundam.

Which is sad because my favorite mech game Front Mission never released its 5th title here (ON PS2!) and hasn't released one since even in Japan afaik. Oh wait, I think there was a DS game or something but we also never got it.

World of Warships.

Seriously, give it a go.

I play it too. Overall its Matchmaker is pretty good. Yes you do get a string of WTF losses at the odd time. But overall, I find its MM to be pretty fair.

The only thing the game is missing is private lobbies

Anyone had a look at "Dreadnought" yet?

Basically Mechwarrior with spaceships.

Seems fun...

You might like Gear Up maybe, but I have weird priorities so I haven't actually played it yet (even though it looks interesting to me) so I can't actually tell you anything about it beyond what the Steam store page has to say.

I've been nerding out on this (installed and play through steam though)

http://robocraftgame.com/

It's.... a thing. But it fills the robot/ tinkering aspect of Battletech/ mechwarrior well.

Basically it's fighting lego's, and as you level up you get to add more crap to your vehicle.
Since it has giant stompy robot legs it's kinda cool. To farm right now I basically have a thing that looks like a ******** cicada with an RPG screen around it and a huge AAA cannon for blasting all the flying guys out of the sky and the front is covered in lasers as a secondary weapon/ ground sluicing downed aerial vehicles. (the AAA cannon shells only explode on in flight stuff, vehicles on the ground it hardly damages)

There is also Blender Battletech made by a 1 man team and still getting updates.
It tries to follow TT rules.
- 10 seconds cooldown for all weapon
- 30 heat cap
- weapon stream fire to simulate dice roll

Quote

WASD to move, mouse to look, left mouse button to fire, right mouse to change weapon.
V to turn on night vision.
Space for Jumpjets (if you have any).
Put the reticule over an enemy and wait for it to turn red and when you hear a tone you can fire. If you move weapons are less accurate. If you are being hit you're likely to lose your lock on. Weapons fired without a lock on are very inaccurate. If you are moving you will be more difficult to hit, so stop, fire and move, stop, fire and move.
Around 100 mech variations, 8 planets, several factions and randomly generated missions. Just keep on playing until you die.

Another late 30's slow gamer here.

I love World of Warships. The pace is so slow that it's ridiculous. "A-ha, there's a target there, I'll start turning my turrets now, so I can maybe shoot at it in 30 seconds." I've written posts on the MWO forums while manouvering a ship in that game. But there's something vaguely zen about sailing about the seven seas in my Kaiserliche Marine rustbucket.

It's also very easy to play with a couple friends, because 2-3 man groups can enter the general queue, which is very nice compared to MWO.

I used to play War Thunder quite a bit. I stopped playing because it got to the point where it was always frustrating no matter how well I did. Even if I topped the scoreboard, won the match, I would be thinking about some stupid thing a teammate did, or some annoying enemy.

Kinda like MWO.

Another vote for taking a look at World of Warships here.

It's slower paced than MWO but that's how it should be. Turret traversal, turning, speeding up or slowing down, they're all thinks you need to plan in advance if possible. Especially in the heavier ships

Scouting can actually mean something in this game because enemies might be invisible to you simpy due to distance and size (the bigger a ship is the easier it is to see/you can see it from further away). But when a friendly spots them you can suddenly see them as well (barring visual onstructions of course) and start firing.

Torpedoes are a certain threat so you need to take them into account when coming around a piece of land and especially whenever you see an enemy destroyer, ever!

Carrier based aircraft also bring something different into the mix.

It features a similar grind like World of Tanks but at least the makers kept that god awful Gold Ammo mechanic out of WoW.
