The community should come together and make their own Mech game.

Yep, it's called MegaMekNet.

F2P, BT persistent campaign, nice people there.

None of them are as good as MWO. But some of them can keep you entertained for a while and will make you appreciate MWO more, which is good. They will also open up your eyes to a bunch of easy changes that could have made MWO so much better, which is bad.

Yea I have played 3 of the 4 listed above. Made me love MWO more. But at same time made me go... why PGI no do this or that or ...

Star Conflict - I do not seem to hit stuff alot and the grind the GRIND!!!
War Thunder - Same as above, except I dislike air based flight sims
Hawken - TWITCH ALERT!!! Also if you get pissed of if teams do not work together in MWO. Hawken is worst Posted Image

Robotcraft - seems interesting (except the need to build stuff is ...) but the gameplay is fun.
Fractured Space - tried but too MOBA for me., wanted to really love FS but all those warping and retreating and running to center ... I just want to shoot stuff and see stuff explode.
Dreadnought - Just installed and I hope it is a fun game. Seems like taking all the great stuff I like of FS and leaving out the dreaded MOBA

Also Alistair Winter, I remember you from the start, after I quit the 1st time due the poptart, after I quit the 2nd time due to Clan inbalance/bored, and now... They should give you a "HE IS STILL HERE!" award Posted Image

Yeah, the grind in some F2P games is insane. Armored Warfare is pretty fun, but the grind is worse than any other game I've played.

Hah, I guess we should both have that award then. Unfortunately, there's no award for playing this game for a long time. They only give you loyalty awards for the stuff you bought lately. It's all good though. I'll just go from whale to freeloader. ;)

Any alternatives to MechWarrior Online? No.

Mount & Blade Bannerlord is the closest thing coming out later this year. Cyberpunk 2077 and Mass Effect Andromeda next year or so. But nothing online or even single player with online aspect.

World of Warships is a last gen complete waste of time but its ok for that.

M&B Bannerlord has gameplay quite similar to MechWarrior Online for mounted combat and may even be good practice one for the other. The horse travels exactly like a mech in one direction and the player/rider has to turn and aim independent.

The faction system is similar to. This is the old M&B below but its still amazing gameplay. M&B is the best example of an older game being as good or better than any other newer game even with bad graphics.
Also best example that MechWarrior online with its current graphics can have at least another 10 years staying power. The bottom video is from 2016. The real game if you go down the player has to spectate the rest of the battle.

Its a lot more difficult than MechWarrior in 1st person though. Also if mounted use a lance. Swords are for the stupid knight on horseback. Posted Image Movement/charging bonuses and using a lance on horseback will break a shield or put another knight down or his horse.

If you can get past the 2008 looking graphics, M&B is pretty entertaining. Horseback archery was particularly challenging. I also liked starting out with nothing and eventually building your own kingdom. And it was highly moddable.

It was one of those games that was easy to miss, and deserved more attention than it got. I'll probably be getting the new release.

This game is great if you are away from your PC, and you have a smartphone or a tablet. I love playing this when on trips, and alone in my hotel room. Its either this or go out and play Pokemon Go. This one seems like a Japanese clan going up against a couple of Russian ones. Heck I just play this using a lightweight Chromebook with Android app compatibility and a touchscreen.

Have you played the WH40k Total War? If so, how is it?

I'm a big fan of the Total War games myself, but haven't had the opportunity to try it yet.

I've played Total War: Warhammer for a while so far, and it's definitely a well-made game, but I more prefer than realistic, historical Total War games. I'm hoping the historical team at CA (there are dedicated teams working on different TW games) are developing Total War: Victoria.

I got WWR on my phone when it was first released to Android. Since then, I've hit the limit (max player level of 30 and max workshop of 15). There's just not a whole lot left to do anymore; it feels more grindy than MWO.

no mention of Robocraft? build your own machine and bring it into battle. not very twitchy but the pacing is a little on the fast side, depending on what kind of weapon you bring into battle

My 3 year old loves Walking War Robots, especially when daddy won't let him play the big robots game (Noooo! Shoot the red robots!!!! Not the blue ones!!).

and I'm surprised no one has mentioned World of Tanks which is by the same company as World of Warships. Note that it's a bit of an acquired taste though but plays at a similar pace to MWO.

Planetside 2 is my other FPS MMO I play along with MWO

I just started Planetside2 and it shares a lot with MWO. At first it look simple(if you played other cap games) but you really have no idea how the game works lol. Its another game where knowledge takes precedence over "skill" and gear also take precedence over skills but a new update fully unlocked good stuff to make newbies somewhat equal with everyone else.

Its easy to join a squad of randoms to play with and most are lead by one of the big Outfit that works together and help newbies which completely make up for the hardcore nature of the game. I love that part of the game, teamwork is op and its easy to achieve in PS2, everybody is always welcome. Not that it will make your time "easy" but so much more fun thats for sure.

The UI of that game is so great and well implemented it blew my mind.

You can totally play a support class and sport a terrible kdr if you want. People will love you if you know what you are doing at repairing max/vehicle or keeping the push alive with the Medic class.

The big map means everyone plays with everyone, theres no shortage of people to play with against ever.

Before joining i checked the last updates and the game keep being worked on in a meaningful manners.

The grind is insane if you want to do everything at the same time and belive me there is much to do. But if you're the kind of guy who chose a profession and stick with it you wont even notice it. I regret waiting so long to try that game.

Its missing a couple key elements MechWarrior online is missing. Also MechWarrior is way more advanced a game with more potential and Planetside 2 is the very best of the last gen online shooter games.

PS2 was fun before they nerfed the S**T out of it and made it unplayable.

Originally there were 3 maps IIRC and you could go to any one of them at any time, which was great, as you had a higher population on one map and less on the other two. This meant that if you had lag issues with a 200 vs 200 person battle, you could shift away to a different map and be able to play with far less people and have a livable experience.

To many people cried a salt hill about "non-participants" and called it "Ghost Capping" and raged their little hearts out, and so the Dev's locked all but 1 map at a time, now were all forced to take a slice of the S**T pie and be involved in the stupid frame-by-frame mega-battles. That's when I just had to walk away from it, it simply isn't playable anymore for me. A shame as I had spent real $$ on weapon unlocks in game.

Well i never said it was perfect but what do you mean? Lore? They arent exactly the same type of game either, one is a death match at its simplest form and the other one is war on a large scale.

In what department do you feel MWO is, and i quote again "WAY more advanced"? I Personally dont think any game can come close to the Paint+Patterm MWO have and it's one of the main reason i keep coming back into MWO aside from the "im gona pilot tens of tons of metal, shooting lasers and missile tonight" that other game dont have. Which part do you think is more advanced?

There is 4 map now, 2 are always unlocked but one is hell to play on. A jungle map where you can play "find the bigfoot" for ever as people like to say. Its beautiful to look at, painful to fight on with future tech like stealth and such. Thats how it was explained to me.

I didnt see it but Thank god they removed ghost cap. I remember the beta of the first PS where everything was unlocked, it was stupid moving from tower to base unopposed. You can still find low intensity fight and aside from out of place fight you can join a very big outfit that does nothing but zerging and cap unopposed for the most boring time of your life. I like when its hell.

I suggest War Hammer, Total War. Its not an FPS but its the best game i have played so far this year by a long shot.

As far as FPS goes, Wild Star just went F2p, there is Planetside2 as well which is another f2p FPS. Battlefield is a great game, lots of vehicles and stuff but the twitch skills are kinda needed in that game, more so then in MWO.

Other then that have you tried something like ARK? Not really an FPS but there is FPS elements in it as well as PVP and such. Another that you can have fun in and have some FPS elements but are PVE is Fallout 4 and the last one i can suggest is Elite Dangerous. Not a new game but a great vehicle shooter and space game none the less.

As some ppl have said.

Armored Warfare. Tanks tanks and more tanks. Great game. Good amount of grinding in both PVP/PVE modes.

World of warships - Ships ships and more ships. Great game. Good amount of grinding in Co-op bot battles/ PVP.

Both are F2p titles, both have online market to buy premium items etc. so kinda the same deal you have going here in MWO.
Less of a problem then MWO. Understandably MWO you can customise you loadout. Armored Warfare and World of Warships have upgrades to your ship. Its far more simple. But its effective. The term "ROLE" is more prominant in the games then MWO. Eg. Play a LAV in Armored warfare. Deal somewhat the same dmg as a MBT but dont expect to stay alive for as long. Run and gun type vehicle.
Eg. Play a destroyer in world of warships. Smash other ships like crazy with your Torp tube launchers, expect to get gimped very quickly since armor isnt with you.

Some might say thats the same principle as MWO, but you have to experience it yourself to get it. MWO is a great game. Like many before me have said, it could be much better.
And if it were that much better, I wouldnt be even playing any other shooter of this genre.

For story line single player PVE I like the Star Wars KOTOR. I buy the expansion level up my favorites play some pvp for giggles in the OP classes and then wait until next expansion. Running dailies and memorizing PVE boss fights is worse than flipping burgers, but without the minimum wage.

My point is you can have your own in the closest game if you enjoy it. Just trying the different games is sometimes worth it to put other stuff into perspective.

If you want to recreate the feeling of MWO, go back to 1999 and watch the Phantom Menace for the first time.
