If you want to recreate the feeling of MWO, go back to 1999 and watch the Phantom Menace for the first time.

Wait you mean, watch in awe for the first 15 minutes after which you start slowing descending into increasing rage and disbelieve while a beloved director slowly by his own hands kills his best work(s)?

Wait a minute... that has tons of similarities to MWO... come to think of it...

OP: I highly recommend Planetside 2. It's free to play, and for the most part all of the infantry classes come with great starter weapons that you'll never need to upgrade, which is cool because the grind is real, puts MWO's grind to shame. After about a week I like it so much I dropped $85 on it and was able to trick out every vehicle in the game with that as well as buy a few things for my infantry. As someone else mentioned, you can play it however you like. You can sneak in to bases and hack their terminals and turrets, prepping the base for an attack. Play as a medic and keep soldiers revived and in the fight. Drive a tank and support the infantry as they push in. Gun for a bomber and take out enemy armor. Fly a fighter and suppress enemy air. Get a crew together and drop c-4 out of a flying troop transport to wreck enemy armor. The battles are pretty epic, and teamwork actually happens and is normal. Quite a good change of pace from MWO. If you get a good signal to the US west coast server send me a message and I'd be happy to run around with you and show you the ropes. I mostly play as Terran Republic but I've got alts with the other 2 factions as well.

The other game I highly recommend is Squad. It's a one or two shot kill FPS, but it's a lot slower paced than the others. The game plays on private servers so you can find one with adults that don't put up with ******** and kick team killers and **** talking kids. 3-4 squads have to split up to attack multiple objectives and combine here and there to help with problem areas. The squad gameplay functions exactly how I wish MWO would work with their lances. People generally work together and communicate very well, as teamwork is absolutely necessary. They recently added vehicles which I haven't tried yet, as the game doesn't handle my 3rd world ping as well as others. It's not a free game, but it's awesome, and tries to be as realistic as possible. I love it.

PS2 was fun before they nerfed the S**T out of it and made it unplayable.

Originally there were 3 maps IIRC and you could go to any one of them at any time, which was great, as you had a higher population on one map and less on the other two. This meant that if you had lag issues with a 200 vs 200 person battle, you could shift away to a different map and be able to play with far less people and have a livable experience.

To many people cried a salt hill about "non-participants" and called it "Ghost Capping" and raged their little hearts out, and so the Dev's locked all but 1 map at a time, now were all forced to take a slice of the S**T pie and be involved in the stupid frame-by-frame mega-battles. That's when I just had to walk away from it, it simply isn't playable anymore for me. A shame as I had spent real $$ on weapon unlocks in game.
They have 2/4 continents unlocked at all times now. One is pretty much always 1-12 fights while the other is huge. Even on the busy continent it's pretty easy to find 1-12 or 12-24 fights if your computer can't handle a Bio-Lab. It's not perfect of course, but I think it's the best option for a huge open world combined arms game. If only it were Battletech themed.....

What server do you play on? I'm on Connery. Mostly TR but I've got a tricked out Liberator and Scythe for VS and a tricked out Reaver for NC. I've been at the game for about a month now.

Yes. Watching paint dry is an alternative.

At least with that, you can be at least reasonably sure what will happen.

its more fun IMO

Hey Look your toys broke...wait...you knew that and make sure everyone else knows it.
Is there not a topic that you guys can't leave a terd on? Even discussing other games....it's like a bad SNL skit.
"Know what else sucks? MWO...that's what sucks" is really getting old.

For a moment imagine that some people like playing this game, even though they're new and untainted with the hate.

Um the one that always has medium loads(Emerald?), most likely East since im on east coast and it offers me the best ping.

I play Terran Republic because of their weapons and not being religious nuts.

I joined a starting small outfit yesterday. Have been playing with them for the last 2 weeks because they had already sent me an invite and i wanted to see how they did things before i joined. A small outfit gives me more "space/opportunity" to play and learn the game slowly, if that makes sense and im less running behind everyone just trying to follow orders. I can't believe how easy it is to just look at the squad/people currently playing on the map and see their cohesion level and range and just chose the one you want.

As much as i didnt mind spending in MWO to get new toy "now!", i don't feel it would help me much in PS2. Im the kind of guy who wants to play everything now and their premium would at best double my earning bringing me nowhere fast. So i made peace with what i have and ill see where it takes me. So far having fun playing the medic and now sometimes the MAX as i learn when it's good to change class.

Their Virtual Training ground where you can try everything is the best thing ever. Every other f2p game with unlocks need that. Im not sure i would have stayed if i wasnt able to make educated choices with the grind in place. MWO certainly need that. Free trial it's the best selling push you can make.

I'm not so sure. The old farts seem to be more interested in lore than the twitchy younglings.

Maybe there would be an interest in the lore if it was in the game and interesting. The youth never experienced any of it. That isn't to say they wouldn't like it if they had it.

I have been having a blast playing World of Tanks for PS4, I mean right out of the box they had working comms between everyone on your team and grouping with upto 5 others. I like it because tanks are very dangerous, much like this game felt back in beta. You had to take your time and don't do stupid things. Patient is rewarded with kills against larger targets and sometimes you get to 1 shot those light tanks. It's fairly fun and enjoyable, not to mention my first week playing I was able to complete a grind to get a premium tank so I can see what their tier system is really like.

Planetside 2 stuff

The starter guns for TR are great. The only game changing weapons are a bolt action sniper rifle for one shot kills or an SMG for close quarters Infiltrator stuff, and then a lock on missile launcher for air targets. You can't really get kills with the launcher, but you're pretty effective at chasing fighters away. The other great thing is that you can trial weapons in game for 30 minutes. Other than that the starter guns are all you'll ever need, that's one thing the game does great. Vehicles are a different story however. Tanks are just worthless without AP canons, and while that 20mm turret is alright, it's not really good at anything. Flying in that game is a mofo, but air is stupid powerful so I've been investing a lot of time trying to master that. I've got about 300 hours of flying now and I'm finally about to beat about half the aircraft I run in to, so that's nice, but some of those guys are just stupid good. Joshino was some great YouTube videos on a wide range of things that are worth checking out. I get awful ping to the west coast server from the Philippines, no way could play on the east coast server :( Oh well. If you make a Connery account you need to say hi. I actually like MWO as it is now. And thus finding a game that compares to MWO is hard. Dreadnought seems good.

PGI got tons of stuff right with MWO, making a super fun game. Yet they screw up in the most weird areas that cause people to RAGE. And my goodness the lack of content is ... ... could be way more...

After 10 years of working in RL and rage quiting mwo multiple times since 2012. I find that any flaws MWO has is not really that big and overall it is a great game.
