The critical slot limits just mean that mixed builds are needed to take full advantage of this chassis. Each of its cannon configs do this, and none of them are really bad.

Nah you can boat just fine.

It boats fine. 4 UAC5, 3-6 UAC2's; it's actually really good at boating, and in many ways is better off boating ballistics than mixing, as it lacks space to carry multiple ammo types effectively or enough DHS to use lasers and ballistics well together (the ballistics eat too much space to carry enough DHS to really use lasers well too.)

Maybe I have been spoiled, but I have enjoyed the previous cockpit vid's.

That cockpit looks like it should have a new 'mech smell, considering Clan Jade Falcon started producing it in 3052 or so.

I miss the video though.

It's a pic taken with a very, very wide FOV. That's not how it'll look at default settings.

The cockpit looks a little plain/empty compared to some, maybe it has the details behind the pilot that you can see during the startup animations etc? I'd probably place the hanging items off one of the monitors as well, just hanging from the roll cage isn't my favorite look.

Either way, I don't have any Night Gyrs on preorder so the cockpit view won't bother me since I don't get to see it anytime soon lol :D

Arm weapons are fine, because:

1) If someone targets your arms, and does enough damage to destroy one, they could have taken that side torso (which would ALSO have destroyed the arm). You're better off, and lost less weapons
2) Better reach with arm weapons, even if only vertically in the case of the Night Gyr

"Arms getting shot off" is never a problem.

I struggle to take that seriously as a medium/heavily pilot. I don't get to fight Kodiak's from the front on as I'd be ripped apart but can rip right through their arms and into the side torso after from my standard flanking position which leaves them on the verge of death for one of the assaults tanking them to finish them off easily. Warhawks are even more vulnerable and those two are the only clan assaults I saw this week in FW (ok a couple of highlander IICs but those were solo not grouped).

That's inexperience talking.

Your beside a Warhawk, or Kodiak. You can always target the ST instead of the arms, always. Particularly on the warhawk(so easy there!), but the Kodiak too. Arms have nearly the same health as side torsos.

You destroy the WHK or KDK's arm... Or you destroy the ST AND arm. Take the ClanXL side torso, and you severely reduce the mechs speed, twist rate, and cooling. He's lost all the weapons in that side torso AND arm.

If you just take an arm, you've wasted a lot of damage. Now that mech has lost some weapons (assuming any where in that arm), but he hasn't lost any cooling, so his heatcap can be pushed over to the remainder of his weapons so he hasn't lost as much damage output as you'd think.

Further, there are damage transfer reduction mechanics. Once you destroy an arm, further shots to where the arm connected still hit the arm. Because the arm is destroyed, the damage is transfered inwards... Roughly half of it. The rest is lost. So now for every 10 damage that hits in that region, only 5 is done to the ST. After that ST is destroyed, further hits to that area only do 1/4 damage to the CT.

Just aim for the ST from the start, destroy it faster. When the ST is gone, the mech is substantially more crippled, and loss of either the CT or other ST will kill.

An mech short an arm just lost some firepower.

Put another way, when you're taking damage, you want to take it on the arms first, unless ALL your weapons are on that arm (then you want to take damage on the other arm).

Arms are the MOST expendable part of every mech.

...

Those two horizontal tubes on the left and right sides rotate. Kind of annoying if you ask me but we'll see.

...because it looks like a wide FOV shot?

Adjust your fov settings in game to 90 degrees. Note how the game looks.

It makes it look like the camera is far back in a long cockpit, exactly like the image. Note how the controls in the bottom corners appear "stretched" or weirdly long.

The words never said by a PXH pilot..... ;)

I get your advice in a theoretical situation but the reality of battle is far more fluid. I've killed you twice in the solo queue and not died to you personally as far as I'm aware. First time I killed your assault in my Hunchback IIC (dual UAC10/ML) and the second time I killed your assault in my PXH. Each time I dissected you and constantly hit you from the flanks. Hey I noticed when I saw the name of the person I killed as you're a "personality" same way I noticed when I killed Jman5 yesterday in my dual ER PPC Nova against his Firestarter. It may have been a massacre overall but I took satisfaction in that moment. ;)

If i was an assault yeah I'd have enough armour to risk tanking your reply fire but in a medium I have no intention of getting anywhere near your arc of fire if I can possibly avoid it. Does that lessen my visibility of certain areas - sure it does. If I have a good shot with less chance of return fire (say from the canyon walls or behind) I'll target your ct/side torsoes/head but you carry far more firepower than me so trading fire is not a good idea (well not for me).

You misunderstand.

It's not about where you attack from - it's about where you aim. Firing from 90 degrees of your opponent, you still target side torso's, not arms.

This has nothing g to do with relative firepower or armour, nothing to do with tanking, or playing hide and seek.

Purely that 99% of the time, you're more effective targeting the side torso than the arms. And you can always get to the side torso, even from the side.

The only time you should ever actually aim for an arm is if it's already badly damaged AND packing a lot of firepower.

Otherwise, destroying an arm is basically just giving his side torso 100+ pts of ablative armor. You'll get higher damage done numbers, but be less effective.

As to the solo queue, I don't recall. I've not played many matches over the last few months (maybe 20 since this leaderboard season started, if that?); But I'm severely rusty as a result.

This doesn't impact basic strategy though.

Even as a PHX pilot, it's better to lose an arm, than the side torso it's attached to. Always.
