Let's see, there's:

Death's Knell
Boar's Head
Grey Death
Black Widow
Heavy Metal (pink, but OK)
Firebrand
Fang
Misery

and then there's

Huginn...

WTF? That sounds like a less lascivious version of a love-in.

Why? WHY! Why.

In Norse mythology Odin had two ravens that flew over midguard, Huginn and Muginn. These served as Odins eyes and spys, flying over all the world during the day and then returning at night to whisper what they saw to their master. There also other stuff about Odin being fearful that they wouldn't return and that he would lose Huginn (Mind) or more importantly Muginn (Memory), but basically it's a Raven scout mech named after a mythological raven scout.

It is a PGI special and is not present in any other Battletech lore.

Ohh....interesting.

So they could've called it Muginn and avoided the Carebear Christmas sentiment...
...or Nevermore since that's what everybody names their Ravens anyway.

Thanks for the explanation.

Right but the two birds observing Midgard for beloved father Odin, the one eyed allseeig Hrafnáss, beeing his personal messenging and intel service where called Huginn and Muninn, thought and memory.

If it helps you dispel that connotation, I believe the Norse name Huginn is actually pronounced something like "WHO-gin", with a hard g as in "golf". Posted Image

I like that they went for mythological ravens for the name, not a bad effort for a non-canon hero.

There isn't much more lore than that. Though Catalyst is making PGI'S hero mechs canon, it is a made up heroes.

Illya Muromets is also among the made up heroes.

Boar's Head combines traits of two Atlas heroes, one that had load out info and 6 medium lasers, another that didn't but had a name and something of a paint scheme description.

Jester is made up but loads of fun for the fluff written; Butterbee is a real hero mech.

Misery is a real mech but the actual mech is not named, however it's description includes that it is heavily scarred with surface damage and participated in the battle of misery.

Firebrand is made up; it is a 65 ton rifleman in Jagermech form.

Most "hero mechs" are mechs piloted by people who were noteworthy.

Pretty Baby is piloted by Danielle... paterson? Peterson? She is known for having such agility with a normally unmanueverable Awesome that she has been seen making her mech "skip" while dodging missiles. Pretty Baby had some quirks that included very fast acceleration, horrible deceleration as a counter (which had a LOT more advantages than disadvantages when it comes to hill climbing) and 400% torso twist speed. Then pgi took those away. :(. I haven't run it much since.

Gray Death belongs to Grayson Carlyle and the Pirate's Bane Locust is his wife's mech. Both come from the novels that begin with Decision at Thuder Rift. Loadouts seem different, but I read those a couple of decades back.

The Death's Knell comes from a cannocial source, but I can't recall what. It belonged to a captain in the 22nd Skye Rangers. Again I don't think the loadout was mentioned in the source.

Heavy Metal belongs to Rhonda Snord with the source being the Snord's Irregulars Sourcebook. She likes pink and blast heavy metal music on her mechs loudspeakers during fights.

The Black Widow belonged to Natasha Kerensky and is all over the place in lore.

Bounty Hunter belonged to the Bounty Hunter and is all over the place in lore.

Legend Killer is from the Solaris VII sourcebooks and belonged to one of the champs.

Let me know if I missed any not mentioned and I'll fill those in. I've been a little vague as not to spoil if you are interested in reading any of the source.

Missing a couple big ones

Yen Lo Wang was piloted by Justin Allard and then his son Kai Allard-Lio, both major characters of this era in the storyline.

The Tempest belonged to Morgan Kell, a founder the infamous Kell Hounds. The ecm option is technically not cannonical, rather it is a nod to the controversial "Phantom Mech" ability. Kell's son, Phelan, would eventually become the leader of Clan Wolf.

On a related note, where the hell is my TimberWolf hero?

No kidding, I've talked about having Mastery Bundles for Clan mechs. They say there is no "Hero" and the world will end if they made a mastery bundle without one.

So make a freaking Hero......I already have them made, with hard points etc. I wish on Smurfy's you could make a design that is not a "made" Mech. I will post them one day for the fun of it.....

this topic is being moved to BattleTech Discussions,

Thanks

Trust me, you wouldn't like the only canonical Timby hero. You know why? Here, I'll tell you what it's name would be. Bounty Hunter III.

As for the OP, Huginn is based on one of Odin's ravens. Now, why they haven't made a long-range version named Muninn is beyond me.

Why would I not be ok with that?
<------------------- see that green triangle holding the fancy butter knife? (means I am not a clanner)

Further, we have options for Aiden Pryde, Vlad Ward etc etc.
PGI could easily just do a bit of hardpoint inflation to make their variants "unique" like they did with the Blackwidow Warhamer

Technically, there already are Clan hero mechs and mastery bundles. The defining characteristic is the Cbill bonus. They also have special livery and some have special geometry. The "Invasion" variants fit the description. The bundles are the a la carte or wave bundles.

I finished a Wave III Gladiator pack this year (I got the Shadowcat bundle several months ago) and after getting them all through basics I stripped and sold the non-specials and only kept the four Invasion Prime variants and the two miscellaneous Shadowcats-together the Wave III Invasion variants are my Clan dropdeck. I also have a Summoner Prime (I) from last year...for a long time it and a TBR-Pr(C) I won last Halloween were the only Clan mechs I had.
