So I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with understanding how some of the C-Bill bonuses work?

How is the salvage bonus calculated at the end of the match?

Also, is there a penalty if you're killed in the match? i.e. you get fewer C-bills/XP (ignoring, of course, that dying means you do less damage, etc.)

Salvage should be 2% of all the intact components of dead mechs. So if you killed a mech ct only you'd get 2% of the value of the remaining components. Its one pool split evenly among the team and only the winning side gets it.

No penalty for death, but if you disconnect while you are still alive you can't get rewards from the match anymore. After you die, if you disconnect you'll get rewards for everything up to that point, so sometimes its worth sticking around till its over to get more assists(you damaged something, you died, your teammates kill it, you get an assist while dead.)

There is no penalty for dying. That's why I always get super aggressive at the end of a match where we're clearly going to win. I'll 1v1 the last enemy even if its almost certain I'll die, because I put zero value in surviving the match. I only care about winning, and having glorious battles. That's it

Salvage is calculated by counting undestroyed components from disabled mechs on the losing team. It's not a lot, though, and is generally not worth considering.

No you get them anyway if you exit the game after dying. The game just won't display all the stuff you effectively did until final scores come.

Thanks, you are correct.

With a little research, it looks like if you disconnect while you are still alive you wont get rewards.

Yeah it is to discourage players from dropping from a match immediately.

You are supposed to get the rewards for what you did up until then.
But if you damaged X mech and then leave and someone kills that mech, you get nothing for your kill assist because you aren't there anymore. You also fail to get victory rewards.

This is what I was referencing originally though, so now I'm more confused.

Disconnect while alive you get nothing at all if you don't get back in within 2 minutes. Anti-farm measure.

Disconnect after you die, you get what you earned up until you left, provided... you actively played and fought. Exact definition is sketchy at best, but basically did things a farm bot couldn't do.

Now I'm confused. If I die, and discon before the game ends, am I giving up credits and xp, compared to just spectating to the end?

Most people say yes, you miss out on some assists and wins, which was an old answer the community had received but a year or two ago, I could have sworn a dev said that wasn't true and you would still get the rewards if you died and leave the match. Without knowing the actual payout from a match, it would be very difficult to test this. Once you leave, you don't know how many cbills you will get and it's delayed anyway since the match isn't over and the mechlab won't update immediately when it is over.

EDIT: One way to possibly test somewhat is to play during an event that tracks your assists and then compare how many mechs died when you disconnected and how many assists you have at that point and then compare to the log the website shows. Presumably, if it counts assists correctly (higher than when you left the match) you are also getting cbills, but not necessarily.

I'm fairly sure you get them anyway, it would really be very very odd way to count the scores if they were cut from the moment you die and exit.

But since most of the rewards come from damage you made, it doesn't matter that much.

They're cut when you exit and fail to rejoin within 2 minutes; dying doesn't really have a factor in whether you get them or not. It's whether or not you are around "when it happens".

Quote

I.E. you shot someone.
You disconnect.
That someone dies.
Okay time to give out rewards for kill assist. This guy, that guy, this other guy who only managed a single LRM from 999 meters but still hit with 'something', and wait, you can't have this reward because you aren't here to give it to.
You reconnect.
Sorry, you weren't there chum, couldn't give it to ya. But if you stick around I might hand you the other rewards that come up between now and when the match ends.

The whether you get it or not is "were you there"?

Actual win/loss money did change though. Rewards is what you might miss out on.
